fh applied to them.... just make sure to find out about the job... when he went it was management trainee... and after a period of time the training was done(maybe a year or so) and they got to choose whether they wanted to keep you, there was no guarantee..

also check there hours that youd have to be working...

if your looking for insurance, also try state farm, theres probably info on their website(they treat there employees good, and more money than geico).

I went to that once and it reminded me of a clinic.
There is a room filled with people they call your name you fill out papers and wait........
they call you name like hours later and interview you again if they like you you go for a drug test and go back for another interview.

I know a girl that works there she works overnight and loves it
not much management there so it pretty low key.

It seems like a nice place to work but it also seems like there isnt enough job sercurity

GOOD LUCK

I applied on line to their website because I heard from Danielle that her friends sister got called back for a second interview. I have never worked for a Car insurance company before but I thought it sounded like an interesting opportunity. I would like to get into a different field then I am in right now. Right now I work for a Marketing Research Firm.

I didnt know if I should goto their open house or just wait for them to reply to my resume that I sent into the site.

So far from your replies, it doesnt sound like a great place to work. I am really looking for something with job security. Something I can work during the day, monday through friday, and for something with a future.

I worked for GEICO for a very long time and it is a terrific place to work. The salaries are very competitive and the benefits are excellent (at least they were when I left). There are a lot of opportunties to move up within the company, including to management positions, if that is something that you are looking for. 2 people who were working for me as reps when I left are now in management positions and they did it in about 5 years.

Yes the hiring process is long and tedious, but the company is worth the effort. The hiring process is a lot easier than it used to be though. When I started there it took 6 weeks of interviews and testing before I got the job!!

If you have any other questions you can FM me.

ETA: Job security is not a problem there at all. They have so many people working there that they have run out of parking! You can go as far as you want there and if you are willing to work hard they reward you well. They do have all sorts of schedules available as well.

I know a lot of people who work at geico - in all parts including the legal department. The pay is good, the benefits are good, there are a lot of people in their 20 and 30's there and they like to socialize togther.

I will tell you though that I know 7 people who interviewed (I think they had something like 3 interviews and then were told there wasn't anything available but if something opened up they would let them know) only 2 eventually recieved a offer later.

One of our GM works there and loves it. A friend works in the legal department and says that they made 1/3 of their salery in profit sharing two years ago - or something great like that.

The people I do know - some do have to work say 1 sat. a month. or every other sat.

I interviewed for there once. I specifically said that I did NOT want a sales job, but they make you take all these sales tests anyway. The testing was 2 days and when I finally met the HR person she asked where else I had applied, and I told her and she began to bash the other companies.

So I decided that I did not want to work there.

Re: Gieco Car insurance company

The letter that I got back from them was very general. It seems like it is a hiring factory...They said they are hiring in their sales department, but im not sure if that would be something I would want to get into. Im not really a people person, and I do not like talking on the phone....Do you think I should go there anyway, or do you think I would be wasting my time?

I know I want to leave my current job but I think I am scared that the job I leave for wont work out and I am hesitating, I guess this is a normal feeling, but im not sure.

What should I do?

Scott,
It did feel like a hiring factory.. there was like 400 people in the waiting room and it took 3 hours to get through the first day of tests, and most of that was sitting waiting. I felt like they were just hiring anyone.. but of course I dont know first hand since I didnt take the job.

If you're not comfortable with it.. don't do it.

Insurance is one of those industries you can get into and prehaps never get out. I know.. im in it. But I'll also say it's one of those industries where if you want, you can do just about anything.. I know.. I went from Producing, to Property Claims to specializing in Auto Claims into International Casualty Broking. It's a funny world insurance.

I've never worked for the 'carriers' Allstate, state farm, geico, St. Paul, Kemper (one beacon), so I can't tell you the experience there. If you join though, let me know I'd love to talk shop with you! LOL

Re: Gieco Car insurance company

Believe me when I tell you that GEICO does not hire just anyone. They are picky which is why there are so many tests. They are designed to weed out people who do not meet the hiring criteria that they are looking for.

Scott I would say if you are not interested in a sales position and you are not comfortable talking on the phone then GEICO is not the place for you. I was a Supervisor in the sales department and it is very high pressure for the reps who work there. You are taking incoming calls all day long and it is your job to sell insurance over the phone. You have sales goals that you are expected to meet each month and it is not that easy to do. Some people have a knack for it and do it very well and others don't. It sounds to me from your post that it is not something you would be interested in. You absolutely have to be a people person to succeed in that sort of environment.
