Gift for a commitment reception

Tonight I am going to a reception for two woman who had a commitment ceremony in Hawaii and tonight they are having a reception. It is at a catering hall.

Do you think I should give cash or get something off the registry?

I think cash. I just read a post here from a couple of days ago that for LI weddings, most people buy a gift off the registry for a shower and money for a wedding.
