I wanted to get my sister something artsy...that I know she doesn't have and that she would never buy herself...
these little cubes are $50 each!!! and are pretty small...(1 3/4 ' cubes)...
Vasa Cubes
Acrylic Sculpture Watch these fascinating sculptures absorb and reflect light; the vivid play of subtle hues makes them appear continuously alive. They were created by a painter named Vasa, who developed techniques for working with cast, laminated acrylic forms based on simple Euclidean shapes.
Cubes measure 1 3/4' on each side.
another description: Vasa Cubes Vasa, 1995 These dazzling cubes have been fascinating Museum store and catalog patrons for years and remain a popular desk or coffee-table 'toy.' Created by an internationally known sculptor whose work in plastic explores the three-dimensional interactions of light and color, they shimmer like a rainbow when rotated. A thin layer of intensely colored transparent acrylic is laminated onto each side of a solid acrylic block to form each cube.
I like them too...but its the expense that is making me wary...
any other thoughts?

Check out www.momastore.org. It's the gift shop to the Museum of Modern Art in NY. Lots of funky, interesting stuff. I have a 20% off discount code, good until Sunday, if you want it!
