Gift from Boss?

Gift from Boss?

I've been working for my company for a little over 3 months. My boss is well off...not super wealthy or anything and he gave me a wedding gift of $200 even though I didn't invite him to the wedding. I thought it was extremely generous of him...and was very thankful.

FH has been working for his company fo 10 yrs....and for his boss for at least 3+ years. They have a good relationship with eachother and my FH is basically his right hand man. His boss was invited (and super wealthy)...they regretfully declined, and he hasn't given FH a gift. Should he expect one? He's actually very upset over this.

My FH says he went to his boss's wedding 3+ years ago...traveled to PA and gave a very generous gift.

Am I thinking into this too much?

yes, I think you are thinking too much. it would have been very nice and tactful for FH boss to have given a gift, and he probably should have, but not all people think of these things. I don't think he should worry too much about it!

Wow!!! That is very generous. Do you want to know how much I got from my Boss?? I am a loan officer at a credit union and by me saying my boss I mean the president of the company.... I got a whole whopping $25.00!!!! I have worked for this company since I was in high school and I am now 26 years old. I know that I will get a card from the whole place with everyones signatures and then they will collect money from them also but I just thought for everything I have done and do do for this company HE could have given me more than $25.00!!! Oh well... I guess it was the thought that counts.

Maybe he is waiting until after the wedding to give a gift.

Sweetie sorry to say this but don't expect anything from anyone that is not attending. It was very nice of your boss to give you that gift but in regards to your FH the boss may think I'm not going so it is not like they are going to have to pay for my plate.

This happened to my sister. We went to a family friend's wedding and sister gave them a nice monetary gift (actually I gave them a monetary gift, parents gave a monetary gift and sister & BIL gave a monetary gift). They couldn't attend her wedding and sent neither a gift or even a card. Shocked us all but in the end didn't surprise us.

Additionally, we had a guest and her daughter come to the wedding and gave no gift or card (she apparently did the same to her best friend at her wedding and she's in her late 40s so its not like she doesn't know) and a family of 3 (then they had the nerve to bring an additional guest) gave $75. And to top it all off the family that gave the $75 supposedly had to close the account a few days after the wedding because her checkbook was robbed and I think my sister had to pay the bounced check fee.

So to all brides you will have some people that will make you shake your head in disbelief but you will have others that you will be surprised by their generosity.

maybe they are still going to send you one - I would be upset if they dont acknowledge the day with out least a card! something personal since your husband has worked so closely with his boss..people get funny with weddings! I did not invite anyone from my company - just easier! but I did invite my old boss and old co-worker - my old boss is not able to attend the wedding and she did sent a gift.

yes youre definately over analyzing!
i have 2 bosses, 1 gave us $200, the other gave us $600 [and he's the one that ISNT as rich]... DH's boss who did not come gave $1k, but the ones that did come gave around $200..

its nothing personal, just whatever they can afford. [or WANT to afford]

You never know what some people will do.
I have seen some crazy things at weddings.
Flashy people who give nothing but spend a ton of money on their outfit.
Simple people who give an unexpectedly large gift.
Your best bet is not to expect anything and that way anything you may get is a bonus.

You are probably putting too much thought into it-that was very sweet and thoughtful of your boss, but I wouldn't hold your breath about FH's boss-some people don't think that way!

Very generous on your boss' part.
BUT on the other note, unfortunately etiquette does not say you have to give a gift if you decline-or even if a gift was given for the same thing earlier. Most likely his boss didnt even think twice about it...I would just shrug it off
