gift giving question that I need your suggestions on!
In the beginning of the year a friend of mine was very close to being engaged to her boyfriend. At the end of Feb. she found out that they were pregnant (baby is due on Christmas day) so in May they decided to be formally engaged. They also decided to have a small civil wedding this August and to have a vow renewal and wedding reception next August ('03). We were both so busy this summer that we didn't chat for about 2 1/2 months but we spoke yesterday. We got to chat all about her wedding, plans for the upcoming reception, and the baby as well as my wedding plans.
Here is my question. What do you think I should do about gift giving? She's told me that I will be invited to the reception next year. I was thinking of sending her something like a very nice frame or some crystal/Lenox (they aren't registered) now and then giving more of the wedding gift I would like to give next year, probably money. Her engagement wasn't very long and I never got a chance to send her a gift or card. Though at the time I was thinking of just sending her a card, as she just sent me a card when I got engaged a few months earlier. Which I felt would be fine. So, do I send the gifts like mentioned above or do I just send a card now and give her the gift of money next year? I'd appreciate your suggestions! Thanks!

My friend did the same thing. What I got her (which she loved) was I got her 3 monogram towels. That said His,Hers & Baby. I got them at Fortunoff they were VERY reasonable! (The place in Roosevelt Field was ALOT more expensive)

I would get her a little something...but be careful with Lenox and picture frames...you may think its lovely, but she may not...(I am one of those people who don't like those types of things - and I know its the thought that counts...and I am very appreciative, but just wouldn't display it)
I love the idea for towels...or a GC from Fortunoffs...or cash....and then get the little something off their registry next year...

I also say to give her a little something now, and then for the wedding next year, you could giver her either money or a gift from her registry. I also like the monogram towel idea.

Thanks for the towel suggestion! I'm going to look into it. My FH and I aren't big into crystal and Lenox either (we like hand made pieces and have received some beautiful pottery) but it seems like many people are. I think my friend would be. I don't know if my friend is going to register or not, she may or she may not.

I agree...get a little something now. But please don't get her Lenox or anything like that unless you KNOW she appreciates it. Everyone seems to assume that if you are getting married, Lenox is the answer but I hate it.
PS: If you want some discount Lenox stuff I have several items I would gladly sell you for cheap!

The same exact thing happened to me and a few days before the first wedding, we got together for a mini bachelorette party. They all gave me little gifts - nothing too expensive but all very thoughtful. My favorite was a pretty frame with a picture of DH and I in it but I really like the idea of the monogrammed towels.
