Nicole, I think it's great that you want to give a gift, even though you're not going!! I was raised to do this, that it's proper etiquette, but it's amazing that many do not do this anymore. Mary MOB

It really does depend on how close you are with the person. I'm thinking $100 would be more than enough if it's a co-worker.

Re: Gift if not going to wedding...
it depends how close you are with them as others have said i either give half of what I would give if DH and I went or send a gift from registry
i got several nos and very few gifts although as Mary said, I was raised to do this as well
amazing how so many people DONT send anything and i was really surprised by who some of them were!!!

Re: Gift if not going to wedding...
We were just recently invited to a wedding that was OOT and we couldn't go.. FH has known him for years so we sent $150... If it was someone me/him weren't really close with, I'd send at least $75.

I'm a child of emily post and so we always do this. We tend to give as gift based on the relationship. Anywhere from 150-300.

Re: Gift if not going to wedding...
We've been getting $50 from our guests that can not attend our wedding. I would say $50-75 if you're not super close to these people.

Re: Gift if not going to wedding...
since it is out of town, they probably have a lot of things on their registry. You could send them something frm that.
I'd prolly spend between 50-75 dollars- but thats just me and my situation now.

you should at least send them a card. Or else they may take it as you didn't care... we have some people who didn't come to our wedding and didn't even give us a card, and truthfully it hurts.

Re: Gift if not going to wedding...
It all depends on my relationship. I normally would purchase a nice gift off their registry or give them a check for $ 50.00.
