You don't have to share this information if you don't feel comfortable, but...
How much $$$ did you get as gifts?? We are inviting about 140 people and we really need the gift money to pay for our honeymoon - we are on a tight budget just paying for our regular bills!!! (mom is paying for wedding - I'm a lucky girl, but we are still restricted financially)
I can't even book the hotel until we get some gifts I am so depressed over this.

Re: gift question...
I'm not married yet so I can't really comment on the amout of $ you'll get, but IMO your best bet is to plan something small & local that you know you will be able to afford(even if you got $10 per guest, you get $1400)any call it your mini-moon, if you get more money you can plan a big honeymoon later down the road. We didn't have money for a honeymoon either, but my aunt(godmother) offered to pay for it as our wedding gift, I'm lucky.

Re: gift question...
We are planning on going to Maine.. the hotel is $175 a night (staying for 5 or 6 days) which isn't too bad..
I'm just money-frazzled right now. *sigh* and I just got a raise too and of course I got more bills too... I'm not a happy camper

Re: gift question...
IMO, you should not count on gifts to pay for your HM at this time. First, most of the gifts will be checks that will not be available right away. Second, some banks will require a marraige certificate to deposit checks payable to Mr & Mrs X. That alone takes 2-3 weeks to receive.
I think Stavia made a great suggestion of planning some thing small and local for now and do a blow out trip when you some of the wedding expenses behind you.

Re: gift question...
We put our honeymoon on a credit card to earn miles. Then we did a balance transfer w/no fee to a card that offered 0% interest and no fees on balance transfers for 18 months. We know that we'll get enough in gifts to pay what we need to on the honeymoon, and we can pay for it if we don't.
We planned our whole wedding/honeymoon in 8 months and we are paying for it ourselves. So, that's how we did it. I'd be as conservative as possible on what you'll get in gifts (you know your families and friends better than any of us, and it's very diff. for each couple what they get in gifts) and go ahead and plan a honeymoon.

Re: gift question...
i agree not to count on gifts to pay for it(and some people give gifts instead of money But you should get generous amounts from your family!(from non family members she got like $150 a couple)
