Gift suggestions for Grandparents??

We have no clue what to get them for Xmas, I usually get them gift certificates to go to dinner, but for one set of grandparetns my grandfather just died, so I feel bad giving a gift certificate so she can go to dinner alone.
Anyone have any suggestions - I usually spend $50.

What about planning a dinner date with her?

Something for her house, something festive for the holidays.

Do you have any pictures with her from your wedding? In a nice frame, it's a beautiful gift!

We always get my grandmother clothes since she can't get to the stores.

All my grandparents live in Florida. One set I have a pic of us at the wedding, I may frame that and give that to them. But my other grandmother didn't come since he died 3 weeks before the wedding.

They all have enough clothes to choke a horse.

I was going to say a photograph as well. I am giving my grandmother one of our engagement pictures in a frame (also giving to my mom, dad & aunt). I'll probably try to find something else too. My grandmother is a Snoopy nut, so I can always find something cute to give her.

What about a nice wreath or centerpiece? My dad has been sending them to everyone from LL Bean the last few years and they are always beautiful and last quite long.

My mom sent them both wreaths already, otherwise that is a great idea.

Dear Abby devotes a column every holiday season to gift suggestions for the elderly. I think I have it at home but from what I remember:

Gift certificates: the supermarket, the pharmacy, the hair salon, for a manicure/pedicure, etc, etc. The first two are suggested with the idea that they're living on a fixed income and would appreciate the extra 'help.' I know DH's grandmother absolutely loves King Kullen gift certificates.

A nice stationery set with stamps to keep in touch.

A magazine subscription-since they have time.

I can't really think of anything else off the list, but in your case I say get the dinner gift certificate and somehow attach a list of dates that you're available (maybe in the card) and promise that you will take her. That will give her something to look forward to. Of course, this only works if she's local.
