gifts before the wedding?

Did you send thank yous right away or did you wait to get wedding thank you cards to send people who gave you gifts before the wedding?

Is it rude to wait till after to send a thank you?

If someone sends you a gift early, technically it's for engagement so I would send a thank you card asap.

Unless it's a month or 2 before your wedding, then maybe wait. However, you will have to wait even longer for the cards to be made so it might be nice to send a little note card saying thanks. People appreciate it, and they took the time to get you something early. I guess it depends if that is their wedding gift in total or just something nice to give extra.

I had some people send gifts that are not even invited to the wedding (friends of relatives, etc...) so I sent them thank you cards immediately after getting them. It also helps so you don't forget who bought what and if you sent it or not.

if it was like a month before the wedding i sent a generic thank you (and plan on sending a formal one with the others). if it was like a week before the wedding that we got the gift, I'm gonna just send the formal ones.

This - we got a couple of gifts about a month before the wedding from some people that couldn't come and sent TY cards rigth away. We will send the TY with the pic to them also (along with our favor). For the few that we got right before the wedding, we will just send the picture TY when we get them.
