Gifts for the Happy Couple from Moms/Dads
I'd like to hear what types of wedding gifts are given from Moms and Dads. Debi and Fred are registered for their honeymoon, so we'll probably be contributing to that. But I love sweet sentimental gifts, too. For my Christmas wedding, EONS AGO, we received some handmade gifts, such as two serving dishes, with embossed poinsettias, and a wedding plate, with our names, wedding date, etc, on. A precious gift to us, was from my Mom, who finished embroidering a dresser scarf, that I had started sometime in my life, and never finished. Do people still use dresser scarves?? An interesting note... my late Dad, had taught me to embroider!!!!!!
We also received Christmas ornaments.
The giving of Christmas ornaments every year, has become a family tradition, for me. I've already purchased a few for this year. I also plan to make some special ones for some people, but won't elaborate here, as the site has ears/eyes.!!!
Another wedding gift we received was a pretty teapot. I recently gave my niece a wedding shower gift, consisting of a big country style basket, because she likes 'country' accents, filled with a teapot, cups/saucers, a book called the Twelve Teas of Friendship/recipes included, two heart shaped nesting baskets with cloth/plastic liners, scone mix and flavored teas.
I love being creative with gift wrapping and bow making. For shower/wedding gifts, I make silk floral bouquets, and try to use the Bride's wedding color in the ribbon. I attach the bouquet to the gift. Many times I use baskets to put the gifts in. I did a gift for my Son, to take to a wedding. He had purchased the tablecloth and napkins the couple registered for. I put them into a basket, tying the napkins with ribbon, and I included small decorative nesting boxes. I've been using a new wrapping technique, at least for me. I buy beautiful fabric pieces, with silver or gold stars, and I set the basket of gifts in the center of the cloth, bringing all the corners together, and tying with a beautiful wedding bow, consisting of three different wedding ribbons, including one with seed pearls. I made a sample pew bow for Debi, consisting of similar ribbons, only with narrow teal ribbon, incorporated, with small seashells attached. This was no easy task!! I purchased an awl, from a hardware store, because the craft store did not have any. Punching holes into tiny shells , sometimes resulted in broken shells, but I was determined and the finished result was worth it!! To those of you who love DIY, may I suggest The Flower and Craft Warehouse, in Blueball, Pa.? It's more than a craft store!! It's HUGE!!!!! They have a huge selection of silk florals, baskets, vases and other containers, gifts, Christmas everything, a huge candle shop, with popular brands, a bath/body shop, and a candy shop, to name a few. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!! Mary PS If you guys see any errors, please correct them for me, this is hard on my old eyes!!!
