Re: Gifts: How much do you spend?
Wedding? (Co-worker, close friend, family?)never went to my co-worker's wedding. DH's coworkers came to ours. They all came with their wives and gave $200, including his boss. When we went to one of their wedding's, we gave the same that they gave to us.
Close Friend's wedding- $300 from us as a couple. I'd give half if I was going solo
Family- we've given between $200 and $400 as a couple. Again, I'd give half if I was going alone. Now that we've gotten married, we will be giving back what we received.
Engagement party?
We were first of our group, both friends and family, to have an eparty. So, we'd give back what we were given. Most couples gave us $100
Bridal Shower?
I used to spend upwards of $100 on shower gifts. Since my wedding, I will be scaling back. The average gift is $50 (not including aunts and moms, and CLOSE friends)
Baby Shower?
between $50 and $100. Depends on who it is...more for a close friend or relative.
Birthday regular
? Depends- have I been invited to a party?
Birthday milestone
?
Graduation
?
Christening/Bris/Baby Naming
for Christenings, we had given $50 as a couple, but those all happened while we were both in college and had no money. We will be upping that for future Christenings.
Confirmation Bar/bat-Mitzvah
?
I just want to add in here: I always gave gifts and thought I was giving the 'norm'. I realized after my own shower and wedding that I had been going WAAAAYYY overboard...
