Girls Check This Out

I dont know if you remeber the article where Prudie the Slate columnist writes it is ok to ask for money. Then she took it back after all the emails she got saying it was wrong to ask for money. Well people actually wrote in and told her she should not have appoligized her advise was right.

Here is the article

Re: Girls Check This Out

It is so strange to hear that in other states people ask for presents for the wedding. Ive never gone to a wedding with a gift besides money. Besides none of the guests have given presents either! U know what cracks me up about the sopranos remark. Noone says that all italians are mobsters.... And all those people who are getting all bent out of shape about sit there every sunday night and watch them with popcorn in hand. Thats my favorite show and im italian. I live in a place where they ony give money so im not sure how feel about her advice but... it cold also be done word of mouth. No???

I don't get it. She says it was OK to ask for money and people complained. Then others said she was right to say it was OK to ask for money and their reasoning is because it's traditional to get cash at weddings in some areas. Yes, maybe so, but it's not traditional to ask for it in the invitation!

Different areas have different ettiquette as far as gift giving. Right here in NY (upstate to be specific), my brother had his engagement party and her family (who is from up there) did not bring ONE thing, not a gift, not a card!! From what my brother tells me, her family will be bringing gifts to the wedding but I know our family will be bringing $$. Just goes to show you how different things are elsewhere.

But either way, I do agree that ASKING for $$ on a wedding invitation is rude and tacky!
