How exactly does this work? What did you write to explain the donation to the guests? I was trying to convince FH to agree to this so we can save $$ and do something for a good cause. But he's not feeling the idea right now because he thinks people aren't going to like that it's not something tangible.

We're donating to the Guide Dog Foundation and the ASPCA. Each setting will have a small card explaining the donation, then a bag of dog bone candies.

we did a bag with jordan almonds in it, and the favor tag says:
in lieu of a traditional favor we have made a donation in your honor to The World Wildlife Fund Thanks for sharing our special day with us Moran & Craig
i think most favors are ignored (unless you spend A LOT of money) and we didn't want to waste money .... it's also nice that this will be tax deductable lol.
you can always give a cookie with a favor tag so you have a tangible part to it

We are donating to the National Brain Tumor Foundation in memory of my brother & since we are getting married 4th of July weekend, we are also making a donation to our soldiers. We havent made our cards yet but I'm planning to word it something like this......
In lieu of favors, Joe and Marisa will be making a donation, in your name, to The National Brain Tumor Foundation in honor of Marisa's brother Joe.
In celebration of July 4th and to pay homage and respect to our soldiers, the Bride and Groom will make an additional donation in your name to .................(FH wants to pick the charity for our soldiers so I don't know which one yet.)
I think that FH might change his mind if you explain that you are doing this in honor of your guests and state it on your stationary than the guests will feel as though they are walking away w/something.

we're doing pink and purple awareness ribbon lollipops with these attached:

FH and I are doing a donation to the american cancer society in honor of my late father and the american heart association in honor of my FH's father.
That's basically how we're wording it too. My mom is not thrilled with this idea to say the least. She doesn't think the donation is a bad idea but she thinks people expect to leave a wedding with some type of physical gift and people are going to talk.
I told her if people have anything bad to say about our donation considering the circumstances they can go F off lol.

We contacted the association and they will print them out for you. It depends on who you are working with.
This is what we had:
To Our Family and Friends
We have chosen a special way to say thank you for sharing our wedding with us.
We have made a donation> in your honor to the (we did American Cancer Society).

Most weddings I go to do donation favors and it is always so well received by guests (we would much rather the money go to a good cause than a small trinket that we don't need).
We may or may not put a card out. At a wedding recently, the couple made an annoucement instead. We liked that idea and will probably do the same.
We are making a donation in my grandmother's honor to Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Fund.

I think this is such a great idea - all charities are in such dire need, esp in light of the economy. We're doing a donation to the Veteran's Hospital but I was also in need of a poem for the tag, if any one has one they'd like to share.

we did a donation and a cupcake favor. cuz dh wanted a donation and i wanted something edible. sooo on top of the cupcake box we put a little note that said we also did a donation. then we tied a ribbon on the box.

there is a link on the american diabetes associate website that guides you through for wedding donations- then they print personalized cards, scrolls or tents for all of your guests as well.

I wish there was a site that enabled you to do a donation to the U.S. Veteran's, in any capacity. If anyone knows of one, please share. FH and I would love to make that our cause.
