For the girls who are doing donations in lieu of favors, how do you actually go about doing it?
Do you make a general lump sum donation to the charity or do you individually make a donation in each guest's/family's name?

I am doing this!! What I am doing is making a lump sum. I thought of how much i would have spent per per person and I got the number for the lump sum that way.

Are you girls also planning on giving a little something at the wedding as well?
The original idea we had for a favor, I figured a lot of people are probably going to throw them out/never use them and the thought of spending all that $$ on something that's getting thrown in the trash makes me cringe.

We did a donation to St Jude's they have an option to donate as a wedding favor on their website. They print up a custom bookmark or scroll (Bride's choice) with your names and wedding date with a sweet thank you explaining that you gave a donation instead of a favor. We also gave Lake Champlain Chocolates. I bought the chocolate in bulk and boxed it myself in really cute favor boxes I found cheap at Amazing savings.

we did a lump sum to the american associate for diabetes. there is a wedding donation page and they give a suggested ammount and then provide very nice printed scrolls, cards or table tends with your and FH's name and a statement about the donation. we did scrolls and then i bought ribbon that matched our colors to tie around. and the price was really great- $300 for up to 200 people...
