Our preist told us, as a NY requirement to get married in a church we need to obtain a Cert for Reglious Services. Has anyone else heard of this? He said we get it at the same place where we would get the marriage cert.
So does this mean we need 2? The cert for religious svcs & the regular marriage cert?

I never heard of that. I have a pre Cana class tonight I ask around and see what I come up with.

We have only had 1 class so far, our second was canceled b/c for the snow storm a few weeks ago. So far so good. I felt a little hostily from one for the female leaders when she found out we already had a baby. But what can you do when she tried to say something I just said she was our gift from a God and a true blessing and that shut her up. I guess you get that when you are dealing with very 'Traditonal' people.

when you are done with pre cana they give you a certificate so that may be it.

Is your Priest from outside of NY and performing the ceremony in NY? My priest is from NJ and has to get Certification to perform the ceremony here in NY. maybe thats what he was talking about. if so- thats up to him to do, not you.
Thats the only thing i can think of.

Well the situation is this...I got laid off from work, and then I found out I needed surgery, but since I was out of work I had no insurance. So fiance and I went to city hall to be civally married so I was able to go under his insurance (we checked w the church first and they said it was fine). So 'technically' we are married through the courts right now, but now they are talking about this cert for a religious ceremony......
ughhh just confusing and probably got to take another day off from work and go to the marriage office & find out...

we got a certificate of marriage from the church when we got our marriage licence...we didnt have to do anything, it just came with it.

never heard of that especially since ure getting married in a church. obviously it would a religious service in a church...... doesnt make sense to me...

never heard of that....however after we were married a few weeks later i received a certifcate from the church, it was like a relgious document, looked like the baptismal cerf.
