we are getting married in a church that i do not belong to and i just found out i need a 'newly issued baptismal certificate'. what is that???
You need to call the church you were baptized at and they will give you another copy of your baptism certificate- the say it is to avoid being married to more than one person since your sacraments are all written on the back. I know it has to be within a certain number of days, not sure exactly how many...

yea you can call the church up to 3 months (maybe 6 i forget) before the weddings to have them issue the baptismal cerficate and send it to the church you are getting married in. but if you getting married in a few weeks, i would call now.
hmmm... I have a related question then. I am getting married in a church which is not my own, because my church actually closed up a few years ago due to poor funding.... who would I contact to find my certificate? And do all churches require them?
You could probably contact the diocese and find out what you should do in that case, they probably have records someplace.
You need to go to the church where you were baptized and get a new baptismal certificate. They will not accept the original bc when the issue the new one, they write down the other sacraments that you received on the back (communion, confirmation).
I think all churches require it. I had to get one from my church (they charged a $5 fee) and had it ready in a few days. FH didn't have to pay a fee.
all churches definitely require it b/c the purpose of it is to make sure you have not been married before, that's why they ask for it 3 months prior and not when you set the date.

Contact the parish you were baptized in and let them know you need it ASAP. DH's parish charged him a donation to get it. Our church excepted my old copy since I am not catholic and we got married in a catholic church.
