With all that is going on with the drug cartels - are you and FH still planning on going to mexico? FH and I leave in 39 days and we are seriously considering changing our HM.. we have been reading that these gangs are kidnapping americans and killing them... maybe its bad info.. but i want to see what everyone else is planning on doing.. TIA
i havn't booked my HM but we were planning on going to Mexico and have chosen not to and go somewhere else....
we are still going. just be careful. don't go all over the place and if you do things do it with a tour group or other people and don't go anywhere alone.
I was more concerned with getting off the plane and the bus ride back and forth from the airport - we never leave the resort but especially we read a news thing last night that said it probably will get worse during spring break and thats when we are scheduled to go... Thanks girls!
we are still going I spoke with my TA yesterday and she said as log as we stay in the resort and dont go into mexico city we should be fine. I am nervous but then again I am a nervous nelly lol. I always feel safe when I am with FH so I think it will be fine
contact your travel agent opr resort. They should be able to set up a private car to drive you to the resort so you know your in a good car. It may cost a bit more, bbut its def worth it!
I don't think it's anything new... same with all these caribbean locations they are poverty sticken, drug and crime-filled areas. We have a private car to and from the airport and we plan to stay on the resort. We do want to do a ruin tour but we will be sure to book with someone reputable through the resort.

this mexico drug cartel thing is nothing new...
i have been watching spanish news everyday of my life since i was born and if you saw the stuff that is on the news daily you would never consider mexico for a single thing....
these issues are in the cities where the populous lives...not where the resorts are etc...
don't be brave and go into the city alone or God forbid mexico city and no one will kidnap you and cut your ears off...which is the kind of stuff you hear on nightly spanish news...

Ah Telemundo. They exaggerate everything. Even the Spanish soap operas are overly exaggerated with the acting.![]()
DH and I were supposed to go to Riviera Maya for our anniversary trip in April, but after all the news about the kidnapping we are switching the location. Right now we are leaning towards Bahamas or a 'safer island'.
we are still going... dont plan on leaving the resort and we are picked up by the resort at the airport.... which is even better
