Girls having a catholic ceremony UPDATED!

Umm so my church is really not on the ball & I feel like I have to do everything- (they fired the organist/singer & did not replace)-

so my question is- after you picked out the readings, did you meet with the priest to go over them or to go through the ceremony anytime before the rehearsal? tia

UPDATE: I called the church & they have a musician woohooo and the priest said to come in and we can go through the readings- feel so much better- thanks for everyone's help & suggestions!

We went over the readings/mass with our priest in a pre-rehearsal meeting. The rehearsal really didn't go into the actual specific parts of the mass - just general ideas.

We didn't. We filled out the readings and then we ran through the rehersal on Friday night.

I don't think you need to go over the readings. I think that is something the priest/Deacon prepares for!

I emailed my priest just to make sure my readings were ok, but as long as you pick them out of the book they give you a pre-cana it should be fine. If you have a ? about your readings I can help you!

if you think u need to meet with the priest...go ahead and schedule something....im sure they would meet with u.

ours asked us to come in just so we could go over the homily and just to know what we expected out of it or how we wanted it to be...funny/serious etc. but we didnt go over what we picked.

if u received the pre-cana book there should be a form in there to complete everything (and your church may have a form they need)...that should be enough

bring copies of that to the rehearsal as well as a copy of your program

Re: Girls having a catholic ceremony

by the time we have the rehearsal we will have meet with the priest 3 times....
once a general over view of what we needed to do/pick...
2nd to review the choices and pick music
3rd to make sure no loose ends
then the rehearsal to run thru everything

Re: Girls having a catholic ceremony

I think each parish is different in how they handle. we met with our priest
Once when they first booked our date
once after pre cana (but i think this is because we switched priests)
and we'll be meeting with him again this thursday to go over our mass and the logistics etc.

if you're uncomfortable with the lack of comm just request a meeting - i'm sure he'll try and accommodate you :) let us know what happens

yea I think that 3rd meeting is what I really need- I picked out the readings using the precana book & filled out the form- but as we have no musicians at my church currently- I have no idea what to do about music

Re: Girls having a catholic ceremony

Well we requested somebody else to marry us at the church, not that we had a problem with the previous person but Dh knew this other person better and the whole family did so just something they wanted.

Since we changed this, he just wanted to meet with us before the wedding, it was just a few short weeks before. Just talk to us a bit about marriage and we did go over the ceremony quickly, which readings we picked and he helped us out with a few questions we had

Not so much on the readings- more the music- how many songs do I need to pick?

You need a song for the processional (the bridal party), the bride ie bridal march, responsonial psalm, offertory, communion, and the recessional when you and dh walk out. So you need 5 songs. Do you have an organist now?

umm no organist yet- my priest is going to try to borrow one from the church down the street lol

I didnt think that they played the bridal march since the guy that wrote it was a nazi lover

Re: Girls having a catholic ceremony

we met with the deacon 3 times before the rehearsal. At the final meeting, we picked out every single thing the deacon was going to say- except for thre homily..which he did on his own. Then we met with the music director/organist and he played different choices for us to pick from for the processional, bride's entrance, responsorial, and recessional. We also asked him to play Ave Maria after the exchange of rings.

I would request a final meeting..at the rehearsal, everything was chaotic and focused more on the getting the bridal party & parents to do everything correctly.

Re: Girls having a catholic ceremony

We met with the priest and sort of went through the readings - he said that we will confirm at the rehearsal.

We met separately with the organist and went over in greater detail the order of the ceremony, etc. He will not be at the rehearsal.
