How are you getting from city to city? We are planning to take the train but it's really annoying because the schedules are not posted yet and we can't purchase tix. We'll be going in two months. I'm a super organized person and it's driving me nuts not being able to do this. Anyone know when tickets will post? I'm looking at trenitalia.com

We are renting a car when we leave Rome, and then driving to the town in Tuscany that we are staying in for a week, and then we'll drive to Florence and drop the car off when we get there.

Most likely we will be taking the train. I love the trains in Italy. I always meet the most interesting people. Any time I've been there, as soon as I arrived in one city, I'd buy my ticket to get to the next place before I left the station. I'm not sure how it's all going to work out now, I'm waiting to hear from my travel agent.

I have a TA and he said he'd take care of it - but he's a little too relaxed about it. I guess since I've never been there before I just want to make sure we're super organized and know what we're doing. He said some times trains aren't avail until 30 days before or less. The thought of waiting that long is giving me a small ulcer.

FYI - If anyone is traveling by train, pay the extra money for first class, this will give you an assigned seat. I didn't know this the first time I took eurorail and had to stand for 5 hours.

Yes, my TA told me this. So glad I know ahead of time thanks for reminding me!

Re: Girls honeymooning in Italy
I tried booking on trenitalia but it's impossible if you're in the US. I tried different CC's and then started googling. Apparently, it's a problem that affects all US cc's and I found lots of blogs with people's frustrations.
I booked on RailEurope and got it in advance. I know you can purchase when you get there, but I like to know and plan in advance so I booked the tickets. The only one I didn't book is the last train ride b/c I'll have enough time to buy it once I'm there. FYI - the prices are more expensive on RailEurope, but I like having the peace of mind.
In between Sorrento and Venice, I'm flying EasyJet which was extremely cheap and will be fast.
I'm going from Rome - Sorrento - flying to Venice - Florence - Rome

It's been a couple of weeks and I finally booked all of my transfers, excursions etc. It's going to be a VERY busy two weeks. We aren't going to get to sleep past 7am on most days! Good thing I hear things close early in Italy bc we can go to sleep early! I hae an excel spreadsheet for our itinerary and it's more intense than most of my spreadsheets at work!
