Girls-I need your opinion-please take bridal shower related poll

If the bridal party is throwing and paying for the showe at a restaurant, including favors and decorations, do the members of the party still give a gift?

ETA: Fellow BM's are yelling at me to add that she is already married for one year and is doing a renewal ceremony and party-does this matter?

ETA: This is the first and only bridal shower

I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean, she got married last year and is now doing a renewal ceremony and party and expects another shower? I'm assuming there was a shower for the actual wedding a year ago. Also assuming she had a traditional wedding a year ago, meaning she had a bridal party, and shower and bachelorette party etc. If so, I've never heard of a shower for a renewal ceremony.

If she didn't have a shower before the wedding and this is the first shower, then I would say yes, you should give a gift in addition to paying for the party.

ETA: if this is the first and only shower and the bridal party is paying for everything, I still think you should give a gift. But I don't think you have to spend a lot of $$ on the gift. Maybe just something small off the registry? JMO

Iwas in this situation once... in the fact that we helped pay for, plan, etc. etc. for everything for her shower which her mother insisted we have out. (I am a fan of showers at homes). I gave her a small gift off of her registery... if I hadn't done so much for the shower and went in on a large gift with other BM's it would have been much more as she is my BEST friend. She completely understood and really considered her shower the gift from us all.

you should give one, even if it is something small and inexpensive, or go in with the other BMs and get something a little nicer

I've never heard of doing a bridal shower for a renewal ceremony. What is the reason she didn't have a shower before the actual wedding a year ago???

I paid for my sister's bridal shower and bought her two expensive gifts off her registry - but she is my sister, and I was her MOH. Her other BM paid for all the decorations, the favors, and together with her mother bought all her luggage and the pillow shams to match the quilt I bought.

I am confused.... why is there a bridal shower if this is a renewal ceremony and she has been married for one year?

In this case, I would think the shower is the gift.

I am in the BP for my brother and the BMs and I are planning the shower. We also plan on giving her a big gift from the bridal party (all of their bedding, luggage, etc)

i would just buy all the little kitchen gadgets or something like that if I had to foot the entire shower bill.

To be sure I checked w/ my wedding ettiquet book and yes, a gift should be given...

It really does not matter IMHO that this is a renewal ceremony for her. This is her first and only shower, so it shouldn't matter. Maybe you all can get her something small.

IMO If they are paying for the shower, that is a gift in itself. It's expensive.

I was a BM in a wedding that we paid for the shower and favors, etc and each of the BM picked up their own little something for the bride, I happen to make a new home basket with all stuff for her medicine cabinet that you don't think of until you need it, the other girls did similiar things like ahoneymoon basket, a cooking basket, none of us spent over 100.00 on the individual gift.

Thank you for your advice everyone!

To clarify, my friend was engaged, and found out she was pregnant. So they got married at the Justice of the peace and are renewing their vows and having the wedding reception one year later.

In that case, I would get her something. Do they need traditional registry stuff or would she appreciate lingerie or something personal? Since she has a child already, she may want something personal.
