Ahhh! I really, really want a cardbox, but my mom is SO insistent on not having a cardbox. Apparently 'jews don't have that.' I think it's totally ridic but there is def no way I am getting around her, my wedding or not.
So, for those of you not doing a cardbox, are you doing anything else instead or just the old hand off to the parents?

I am a Jew, and borrowing a birdcage from a friend. I may put some ribbon on it, but that's about all she wrote. lol
I dont DIY, so that's of course an issue.

Ahh I can't stand the 'jews don't xxx' comments anymore! Oh and I should've mentioned that bird cages are out as well, since those are also apparently a no go

well there are wedding envelope holders that are like large flat purses. They are fabric and sometimes are quilted, or patterned. I personally am not a fan bc someone can just lift it and walk off, but you can talk to your Mom about this as an option.

why don't you do the silk bag like the old school iIalians do...Goodfellas style....just ask everyone to line up and hand you their envelopes My mom found the old one they used for their wedding and asked me if i wanted it lol

I went to a Jewish wedding last year and I remember saying to FH how the cardbox was so nice. This is something I;d go bridezilla on, if you really want it, I'd get one and hide it until that day LOL

FWIW, the FMIL did ask me if I was doing a cardbox, and I said I had a birdcage coming on loan. We are all Jewish too, so she wasnt against the idea when she asked.
Maybe your Mom needs to back off on this one! lol

lol trust me - I have tried!!!!!!!! Even my FSIL (who isn't jewish) isn't having one when her and my brother get married in August b/c my mom is so against it. I have tried and tried, but I don' think there is any winning this battle!

Get one that looks like a wedding cake - she'll never know the difference. Then, have them roll your real cake out when it's time to cut it. Can you imagine the look on her face then?
