I just started b.c. this month for the first time in like 2 years. I used to be on the patch, but after all of the awful things that happened to people on it, I stopped using it and haven't used anything since.
I'm just starting my third week tomorrow in my first month of b.c. pills and I noticed that I have break through bleeding and spotting. I also have cramps like I'm getting my period....but I'm not supposed to get it for another 2 weeks....
Is this normal?

I have been on birth control for about 9 years or so I think. This didn't happen to me but I have heard that it is normal. Your body needs to get used to this new thing that you are taking everyday. I know I got really moody and B-itchy my first month that I was on bc it was mad. But then my body got used to it!!! Good luck and I hope you feel better! Isn't it so much fun being a girl?

It's perfectly normal for the first 3 months while your body adjusts to it... if after that if you're still having side effects from it, I would talk to your doctor about trying a different pill. There's so many different ones, and everyone reacts differently to them.

Hey Bon....
I've been on the pill for almost 10 years - a few different versions. Not that i'm a doctor - but that's normal for the beginning of being on the pill. I find that I tend to get cramps(not BAD ones like you are talking about) but a little crampy, like my body is telling me, 'we're a comin'.... It's normal for a little breakthrough around week 3 as well....that will go away with time (for me it did)...but i may see a little about 3.5 weeks in and be like, okay, you are on your way - i get it...
Just as an FYI - try to take the pill around the SAME TIME every day. it'll help level you out and if you miss it - your body will give you little signals, a little cramp here or there and you'll be like, ***???? Then you realize that you missed a pill & take it...
I hope this helps even a little bit....

i am not even on BC and ill spot bleed in between periods once in a blue moon, it happened this month though and i went to the gyno and she said its normal...i think it has to do with the fact that i was ovulating and thats why ill spot bleed sometimes, yeah something like that haha

My first month after switching to a different one was just like that also with nausea and vomitting...second month is usually better. Which one are you on? I was on Yasmin.

You may want to talk to your dr. about switching brands, some do that more then others! Estrostep I believe has the lowest chances for break through bleeding

Has anyone changed from a BC that they have been on in a while and LOVE, but want to try another one for certain reasons? I've been on mine for over 2 years and am on a scheduele that never fails. However, I'm thinking of trying a new one due to certain side-effects (good ones), but am afraid it will throw everything off.

Yes it is scary switching from one pill to another. You could change the cycle you are on and get your period a different day and everything. What are the good side effects that you want to change? If they are good why don't you stay on the pill you are on? Or are you being sarcastic and I just didn't realize! lol.

Yes, totally normal. I think it just takes time for your body to adjust to the bc. So your period may be a little off until your body is used to it.
