Im trying to be as formal as possible when it comes to addressing the envelopes (no inner envelopes), but FH's family is givign me a hard time about correct names. Should I address them with the nicknames if I cant get the real names? Also how do you address a widow? Do I still use her husband's name or her name with a 'Mrs' in front? Thanks!!

Yes, for widows I used her married last name and Mrs. before it on the address on th eouter envelope. I did first names or nick-names (for friends) on the inner envelope though.

a widow can be adressed as 'Mrs. John Smith' or as 'Mrs. Mary Smith.' I chose the lattrer. I would do the former if it is an older person who is widowed - this is fairly traditional and more formal. Although either works.
What are the nicknames? Is it Nick instead of Nicholas or something like 'Buba' ? I guess it would depend on the nickname!

Hey Jen
i had a widow, I addressed her as just Mrs. xxx xxxx
and there was one we didnt know the girls husbands name so that was just Mr. & Mrs. Xxxx
and if his nick name is smokey ...i agree with diamondgirlie....leave it as just Mr. and last name

I am working on my envelopes now and I have to say that out of complete frustration I gave up and just addressed them all Mr. and Mrs. Last Name. For widows I put Mrs. First Name Last Name.
