Girls that got negatives from photographers and made their own albums....?

So, Im trying to go the cheap route and get just the proofs and negatives from a photographer and eventually get my own prints and albums. Im trying to narrow down my search of photographers but wasn't sure what to look for if this is my end goal.

If anyone has done/is doing this, would it be best to find a photographer that gives them to you on a CD so that you can do all the printing online or is it not too difficult to deal with the physical negatives?

What do I look for when picking a photograher if I want to deal with getting the prints and albums on my own?

Twelfth Night photography does this. We are getting our pictures on a cd and ordering our album separately. They have a couple of places they can order you an album from. Some are cheaper than others.

My photographer Bill Minnick, gives you all the proofs on CD (for free) and you can buy all the negatives for $100. You can make your own package with him and not include albums for extremely reasonable pricing. Basically he can accomodate anyone's budget.

I second 12th night.. they do amazing work and even will help you make your own album on an online service.. or at least teach you the basics!

Most places offer this option, but there are subtle differences that you should watch out for and decide what is important to you.

Make sure they are offering to sell you high resolution digital files, not just 'proof' quality. You also want them to be color corrected, unless you know someone good in photoshop. Also, find out who will actually 'own' the pictures. Some places will sell you the copy right. If they don't, you need their permission to use the prints and a album company will not work with you without a release. For example our photographer keeps the copyright but we are allowed to print the pictures for personal use.

I did this. 12th night was my photographer. I had 2 actually. One for posed shots and one photojournalistic. I bought just the proofs on CD. I then went on Shutterfly and made a beautiful leather album for CHEAP! I think thats the cheapest way to go.

nybride, what do you mean you had 2? i really want to do my pics this way, didnt even know it was an option out there, this is great. if you dont mind what did you pay for the proofs on the cd? and how many pics on the cd?

I'm using Marianela Vera - she has one package to choose from, and it's $1,500 - all info on her website.

I think I paid about $1500 and I had 2 photographers from 12th night. I had way over 1000 pics and they were awesome!

Your previous post on shutterfly album was my 'inspiration' to have all digital and print my own albums.

BTW, your slideshow DVD is beautiful. Dom uses it for demo.
