Girls that have been to Caribbean...

Original post by Teamhurldon

FH and I are having sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much trouble deciding on a honeymoon, so... Does anyone recommend a resort they have been to (doesnt have to be fancy) but something on the water...
Here's the deal, we have a budget of $3500 for our honeymoon....

FH hates the idea of an all inclusive resort like sandals because he used to be a chef and is a food snob, sooo he wants to be able to go find restaurants that he's researched yadda yadda and would rather spend money on that...
(im not picky i'd prefer all inclusive but hes adiment about not doing it)

all i care about finidng is a decent place on turqoise water where i can sit in a pool, hottub lay on the beach, and maybe snorkel and find some nightlife nearby...
so i guess from what I've researched Aruba or Bahamas would be best?

and we dont want to go to Jamaica, Dominican Rep, or puerto rico..

I have been to Cancun, Ocho Rios Jamaica, and Aruba. All of the places I have stayed at were all inclusive. Honestly, I am so boring when it comes to food....I cant handle spicy food and I hate all seafood (I wish I didnt though) so we always stayed at All Inclusive places. I know you said you didnt want Jamaica and that is fine. In aruba we stayed at the Divi which I believe is only All Inclusive but it was awesome. The food was good and so was the hotel. In Cancun we stayed at Dreams Cancun Resort and Spa. It was also all inclusive and the food was pretty good. I think it was about $3000 for the two of us (we found a really good deal) with airfare included but it was only for 5 nights/6 days. I wouldnt suggest Dominican Republic or Bahamas. I know 3 or 4 people who went to the Bahamas and all of them had bad things to say about it. I have only heard good reviews about the bahamas from people who have stayed at the Atlantis. DR is really poor from what i understand so I really can't imagine them having very high class restaurants but I can be wrong. Good luck and I hope this helps!!!

i have been to the Bahamas twice now, and i had an amazing time both trips. We did not stay at Atlantis when we went. It just depends on what you're looking for.

I went to the bahamas and stayed at the Crystal Palace Resort and Casino. Its owned by the Wyndham. It has a pool with a slide and swim bar, mini golf course, activities during the day, and a small lagoon besides the beach area. There were restaurants in the hotel but most nights we went to the restaurants on the island. Its not all inclusve.

It was awesome.

Cancun all the way. The JW Marriott resort or the RIO resort are both nice, 4 stars, right on the water, for a decent price. You can research and get a flight for about $300 person. Both those resorts are a $5 cab ride (6 minutes) from the clubs. I have been to Jamaica(thumbs down), Puerto Rico, Tortolla, St Thomas, and the Bahamas and I never had a better time than in Cancun. The hotels were nice, the nightlife was crazy, and the beaches were beautiful. I would stay away from the really cheap hotels (ie Holiday Inn) cause those are mostly spring break/college kids. FH and I went during Spring Break time and stayed at the Marriott and it wasnt wild or full of kids, it was acutally romantic.

Just keep in mind that your wedding is in March and the Bahamas weather could be tricky than...I went March 16th 2004 and it was 80 degrees half the week and 65 the rest...besides the water was so cold... i would go somewhere more western or southern carribean....

The Atlantis in the Bahamas...the beaches there are soooo prettty!

I agree!! I went on a cruise there recently and laid out on the beaches right next to the Atlantis. Absolutely gorgeous. And the food was delish!

Honestly, I hated Nassau and the Bahamas. Nassau itself is pretty nasty and run down. Atlantis is pretty much the only nice thing in the area. I absolutly LOVE St. Thomas and Tortola. Tortola is in the British Virgin Islands. Stunning! White sand beaches, crystal blue water and it's not crazy touristy like some of the other islands.

This place looked very fun to me, but when i tried to check rates they said there was none avialable for our dates so youve been? are all the attractions included with your stay there, or are the water rides and stuff extra?

I work for a travel whoesaler and we are still loading rates for certain destinations for 2008 - by the end of July/August all rates should be loaded, just be patient!!! Atlantis is awesome!

Re: Girls that have been to Caribbean...

I've done 2 cruises thru the Caribbean and just did a week at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica in November. I wasn't big on going to Jamaica, just had no appeal to me, but I absolutely loved it. We were on the west coast in Negril (about 1.5 hours from the airport in Montego Bay). The place we stayed at I had never heard of, but it has been rated best resort in the Caribbean for a few years in a row. We stayed at Couples Swept Away. If you go to www.couples.com you can see some of their other resorts. People that were there kept going back and said they loved it so much more than Sandals. The food was incredible and there are a lot of activities included in your package. I would definitely love to go back. One thing you should keep in mind for wherever you decide to go, if your resort is more than a half hour away from the airport DO NOT drink anything at the airport while you're waiting for your shuttle. You'll thank me, trust me
