GIRLS THAT HAVE BEEN TO ITALY??

Need some help for a couple of friends of mine. They are going to Rome and are looking for Restaurants near the Colosseum. They would like a view while eating if possible, or at least overlooking Rome.

Any thoughts?

there is a restaurant by the colloseum called IL colloseo- it is great... they keep bringing you out different samples of food.. for example you can do an all pasta sample or a pasta and meat sample.. they bring like 6 different plates of pasta for you to try and like 5 different plates of meat.. Delicious!!!
OR if she wants some really good food she can go to Trastevere they have some great restaurants there. FM if you want more info.

Honestly, I found that the restaurants RIGHT near major tourist spots like the Coloseum are sooo touristly, and double the price of the more hidden local places...but hey, if that's what they want...

Il Colloseo was packed when I was there.

I agree, we've been to Rome twice, once in xmas 2004 and in sept 2005. Try avoiding the places near the tourists spots if you can. Venture out to small mom/pop shops. We found that we enjoyed the food more. FM if you want any info, I don't have it off my head, need to look back at our receipts.

Definitely try the gelato there, esp by the Trevi fountain, there is a shop (my fav)!

Nic is so right on this..the more off the beaten track they go the better off they are. The best restaurants are always little hidden gems. There was one I recall that was not too far from the Spanish Step that I really liked. I will ask FH the name of it bc I can't remember.

Tell her to go on citysearch too. I also think Zagats has a Rome guide which could be very useful

There is a little place off the beaten path called Il Bacaro - very little and romantic but the BEST food in Italy...(no exaggeration )

You can look it up online .. not sure of the exact location...but its only locals..no tourists really.
