Do FI and your future in-laws flip when they get a load the price of a LI wedding? Mine still don't know how much a wedding on LI costs. Over 20-30K? They would DIE!

well i live in NJ and got married here... almost as bad as an LI wedding as far as cost.... DHs parents live in NJ, too... but they grew up in western PA in an area with not much money and still have that mentality... they do weddings SOOOO much different out there- i was afraid to talk about our wedding with them while i was planning it because i didn't want them to think i was a snob or bridezilla or anything.... they gave us $5K for the wedding- i stll don't think they know how much the whole thing cost!

how about different country??? I am from LI FH and fam is originally From ecuador and live in CT now- sooo they really had no clue what a LI wedding would be like, but they are looking forward to it!

My sister is dating a guy from upstate, and plans on marrying him, and she was telling me that his parents will be shocked, on how big the difference is

I'm originally from Long Island, but moved from LI when I was 16 and have been in FL since. My family is still on LI so we're having the wedding there since his family is smaller. He's from Seattle, but his whole family lives in Alaska right now. By the time we get married we'll be living in Seattle too. Can't wait to leave FL!

Oh yah, I forgot. He is a bit amazed at the prices even though we're having a pretty inexpensive wedding. He keeps trying to find cheap house rentals. I told him good luck.

YES! I am from LI and my DH drom England. Besides the whole price difference, the set up and everything is a lot different. Our wedding ended up costing $30k, which is a lot of money, but could have been a LOT more. We had 130 people which I keep trying to tell DH and IL is not considered big here. They thought it was this big extravaggant affair and called the wedding POSH!
It's perspective. My 'posh' $30k wedding would be considered small and plain compaired to someone else's.

both me & fh are from queens - but we have relatives and friends from out of state that think we are completly INSANE....
my aunt tells me that for the cost of our wedding - we could buy a house in PA......and in reality she is not exaggerating THAT much.....

My friend married a guy from KY and his family couldn't understand why a wedding owuld cost that much. They had a better understanding when they actually saw what a NY wedding is all about first hand.

i am from Buffalo and relocated to Li , i cant believe how expensive it is here for things that are pretty much the same as back home. It is more than double the cost here. We decided to do the wedding upstate
