I originally had a regular room and then I had a problem with my roommate...she had severe post partum depression and she didn't want her baby or MY baby in the room. It was a nightmare. So I asked for a private room and they had one open. Not sure if I got bumped up for one because of the problem, but I had no problem getting one.
I didnt have one but i know there was plenty available.
I didn't request one, but they were all full when I was there, but it was a full moon and a snow storm, both of which the nurses told me seem to send mommies into labor. They were kinda pushing me out the door the day I was discharged because they really needed the bed.
I am not really sure I never asked for one. But I am thinking of asking for one this time around.
If they are full the nurses will put you in a list and you will get a private room as soon as it's available. I will be delivering there as well. You can tell the nurses in labor and delivery as soon as your admitted to call maternity to see if they have private rooms available before they fill up. This way if they are short of rooms you can reserve one early.
