Girls who did/are doing DIY pocketfold invites

I am so inspired by you girls making your own invites that I may do my own. I'm sure I will end up in a straight jacket by the end, but its worth a try.

I was checking on all the DIY sites for the pocket folders and insert cards and all and they still seem expensive.

If you don't mind sharing, what are they costing per invitation?

Also, I don't know if I am tallying up the correct stuff. What exactly do I need? I know I need the pockets, envelope, RSVP card and envelope, but do I buy the precut color stock cards and border AND inserts. OR, can I print the inserts on a heavier bond paper from staples?

See, I'm already making myself crazy.

Any advice from those who have done this?

TIA

Re: Girls who did/are doing DIY pocketfold invites

I'm doing DIY pocketfolds as well. I'm going to get mine from cardsandpockets.com.

I will be ordering:
-The Pocketfolds
-A Colored Matte (for between the pocketfold and the actual invite)
-Invitation sheet
-Enough 'inserts' for 3 cards (Directions, RSVP, Reception cards) I'm going to cut those to size myself.....it's cheeper since they charge you to cut them.
-Envelopes for the invite and envelopes for the RSVP.

Cardsandpockets offers a 'Mock-Up' kit for $10. They come with all the pieces you need to make one up as a sample for yourself. They ask you what color you want everything in (the pocketfolds, the matte and the actual invite sheet). I ordered an Eclipse Black pocketfold, amethyst matte and white invite and inserts. I can't wait to get mine in the mail so I can see if I can actually do this project. lol You can seal them with a sticker, a ribbon, a clasp from a craft store (that may get pricey) or if you are brave, a wax seal.

I hope this helped you out. Good luck & Let us know how it goes.

ETA: The invite on the splash page of cardsandpockets advertizes about $2.76 per invite. When I priced mine out they came to about $400.00 for 150 (for everything), which isn't terrible considering pre-assembled, pre-printed pocketfolds could run $5 a piece and over. If you need a hand figuring all that crap out feel free to FM me.

Re: Girls who did/are doing DIY pocketfold invites

I purchased my pocket folders and envelopes (outer and response) from cardsandpockets.com
$1.00 per folder and 0.15 cents for the envelopes. I purchased the cardstock for the inserts from my local craft store when they were 1/2 off so they were only 0.12 cents a sheet and 1 sheet made the 3 inserts I needed for my invitation (direction, reception and response) and 1 sheet also made 2 invitations for the left side. I took my cardstock to Office Max and they cut them to size for me. They only charge 0.97 per cut up to 500 sheets of paper. So for the 3 inserts it was 6 cuts total and for the invitation it was 3 cuts. So for less than $10 they were cut and perfectly which saved me time and agony cutting it on my little scrapbook cutter. I also purchased my cardstock for the border (behind actual invitation) from paperandmore.com and then had those cut at Office Max also. I could have gotten them already cut from cardsandpockets but this way saved me about $20 even w/ shipping and cutting...and $20 is better in my pocket.
Hope all of this info helps you. If you have any other questions let me know.

Thanks girls. It sounds like buying the folders and cutting the cards yourself is the best bet. (or going to office depot)

One more ? Do you print on the card stock, then cut, or do you set up a paper size and print each one?

Re: Girls who did/are doing DIY pocketfold invites

i just got back from a day trip into the city to paperpresentation. i did a mock up of my invitation but my mom can't find her camera wire so i can't put them up here yet.. i did pretty much what the other ladies did.. pocketfold from cards and pocket.. matting and inserts i cut myself from cardstock.. i brought the card stock from paperpresentation but may buy it from lci instead.. depends on pricing.. hmm. . didn't get the envelopes yet..

but i figure on spending bout $500 total.. once i get all of the sizing together.. my problem right now is that i do not have a decent papercutter so my inserts are slightly crooked..
one hint i will tel u is that it's not worth it to buy one sample pack or one pocketfold.. don't ask but that's what i did.. and u'd be surprised how quickly u can jack that ONE pocketfold up.. when u see my pics later u'll notice smudges on them.. well those are ink smudges cause one of the papers i tried wasn't meant for inkjet printers.. and blah blah blah.. it was my only one.. so i had to keep rearangeing and what not..

and now i have to wait for new pocketfolds arrive in the mail so i'm pretty much out of business for a few days..

Re: Girls who did/are doing DIY pocketfold invites

I ordered all of my materials from cardandpockets.com. They have inserts to match each of their pocketfolds and they're already cut so that helped ease a lot of stress. When I added everything up, I spent roughly $3.19 per invite, including ribbon and adhesive, etc. I was quoted more than $5 per invite from other retailers so I was totally ecstatic. FM if you have any specific questions. And pics of my invites are in my album.

Also, if you don't mind a little work, I have directions on how I made my actual pocketfold and how much it cost per pocket The pictures and directions are in my albums

FYI, It's cheaper to make the second smallest insert a postcard RSVP, rather than a card and envelope and postage.

I got all 4 inserts on one sheet of cardstock and then cut it. If you're counting, that's 125 pages of inserts and 125 invitation pages (without matting) for, oh, $12, plus ink. Add 130 pocketfolds from Envelopments, $272.

Re: Girls who did/are doing DIY pocketfold invites

Instead of buying cardstock matting to go behind the invitation, I printed out a hollow square of the contrasting color then just glued the invite down, covering the whitespace. So, for each pocketfold, I used 2 pieces of cardstock - one for inserts, and one for the invitation and the background.

I know. thats what I'm thinking.

I used to be really crafty and I got lazy lately and lost my mojo so I wanted to something. I know I will really get into it once I get going. Just as long as I start early and get the instructions organized...

....and get a printer that doesn't s*ck. I have an inkjet and I have to feed each piece of paper ONE BY ONE...LOL

Re: Girls who did/are doing DIY pocketfold invites

Wow- I just did the math and with 150 pockets, 175 envelopes, 175 response envelopes, cardstock from Michaels, cutter, ribbon and adhesives...it will be under $300. The same as I would have spent on regular ones.

Now, I just need to decide if I want to comit to this

Thanks for all of your help ladies!!

Thanks, that is so nice of you. I may use the 'pool' color. Otherwise, I am just going with black/eclipse. I will let you know if I decide to do them and/or need swatches.
