Girls who dont have inner envelopes..

How in the world are you making sure that your guest dont bring people who arent invited???

I was thinking of writing it on the outer envelope (since there is no other place to write it)
ex:

Mr. Juan Blah
and guest
111 Fairytale lane
Great land, NY 00000

but will the post office get confuse??

How bout..

Mr. Juan Blah
and Ms. Maria Boo
111 Fairytale Lane
Great land, NY 00000

Re: Girls who dont have inner envelopes..

I just did

Mr. John Doe and Guest
123 Anywhere St.
New York, New York 10003

or

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe and Family

or

Mr. John Doe and Mrs. Joan Smith
and Family

OR (for my various married gay relatives)

Mesdames Jane and Jane Doe and Family

I was kind of iffy about it at first, but it ended up looking nice.

Re: Girls who dont have inner envelopes..

you should avoid writing guest on an outer envelope.... I either added the guest name (with the 2nd name indented, without an 'and' inbetween, since they are not married)

Mr. John Smith
Ms. Mary Jones
123 Main St
Anywhere, NY 11000

If I didn't know the guest name, I inserted a small note (size of a small post-it) writing 'you are welcome to invite a guest to accompany you...)

Re: Girls who dont have inner envelopes..

Why would the post office get confused? As long as there's an address and a street or apartment number, they don't care. I addressed mine to:

Mr Julian Friend
and guest
23 Dirt Road
Anytown, New York 10000

or

Mr and Mrs Julian Friend
and family
23 Dirt Road
Anytown, NY 10000

Of course, technically, Julian could show up with his 2nd cousin: 'You said, and family!' but I trust my guests. There's a lot to be said for having a small wedding where you know all your guests quite well!

Re: Girls who dont have inner envelopes..

I did the same thing-

Mr & Mrs John Smith
address

or Mr John Smith & Guest

Mr. John Smith & Tina Martin

Mr & Mrs. John Smith
Miss Katie & Mr. Tom Smith (their children)

I found a website that listed the etiquette for when you don't have inner envelopes and they say you should list the children by name, not write family. But who the hell cares anyway? etiquette can be so anal sometimes!

got that right!

But in a way, I think listing children by name is a good idea- you just never know....

You can really control that, but I would suggest if its a problem , to put it on the Response Card stating that you have reserved for example 3 seats. So they can kind of see that you are only suppose to bring 3 people

If i did not know the name of the guest i put just the name of the person on my list, but I filled out everyone's RSVP card and put either 1 or two guests

I did ___ of 1
___ of 2

but believe me people still get creative

This is a good idea b/c you're technically, not supposed to write 'and guest'. If a couple has been dating for a while, you're supposed to ask the name of their significant other and include it on the envelope.

So if you know the name of the guest, you'd write ther name on there too, even if they don't live together?
