Girls Who Go Tanning.....Info Needed

I'm pretty pale and would like to have a little bit of color before the wedding. I really don't want to go the spray tan route. Thinking about going tanning. I dont want to get really dark, just a little bit of a glow. Plus it would give me a good base for the honeymoon. I know absolutely nothing about it...have never done it before. I usually avoid the sun during the summer, so my skin is not used to being exposed to it like that. How does it work? Are some places better than others? Are there specific machines that are safer? How long before the wedding should I start? Any info or recommedations would be great.

I am very pale also and have been tanning for the last couple of weeks for the same reasons you listed. I started out doing 8 minutes now am up to 10 minutes. I usually ask the person working there how long they recomend me going in for and start with that and see how it goes. I would say don't do more than 8 minutes at first. I don't know where your located if your on Long Island I could recomend some places

ive heard that getting a base tan is a myth for not getting burned

Indoor Tanning

I am fair to medium complexion. I tan 3 times per week. M-W-F first week 6min each then next week 8 then next week 10 , ect. Once I am up to a tan I like I stay at those minutes every week.

Sorry I'm actually in suffolk, but I highly recomend going just take it a few minutes at a time and see how it goes!

I'm irish so naturally very pale, but I go tanning at Beach Bum Tanning, LOVE it there. I've gone to many places and this place is by far the best. I would recommend a bronzer lotion, as well as bronzer UV beds, some beds make you brown while some make you red, so I would ask them at any tanning place you go to. and it depends how fast you will tan to know how soon you should go, but probably one or two months before.

Each tanning salon has different kind of beds that are all different strengths. Whichever salon you chose, start with the lowest bed...probably 1/2 of the full amount of time (depending how easily you burn) and work your way up to more time or stronger beds.

I would also recommend using lotion, just something basic with maybe a small SPF. If your skin is dry it will not tan as well. Purchase lotion directly from the tanning salon because using regular lotion can damage their beds but your skin too (depending what ingredients are in there). You can also probably find cheaper indoor tanning lotion at a beauty supply store.

I know spray tanning sounds scary ... but it can have pretty good results.

If you are paler, go to a lower power bed first for a few mins, and do that a few times a week. Really ask questions to an employee there that knows what she is talking about, not one of those 15 yr old girls who can really care less. Because you can get really burned if they put you in a too high bed. And use lotion.
But I would suggest AIRBRUSH tan. Its a spray tan, but not in a machine. I've done this at least 5 times for weddings, and it has turned out GREAT! Just be sure to do it like 2 days before the wedding, because when you shower, the color will wash off a bit. I go to sunplicity tan in lindenhurst. THey are reasonably priced.. call there. I def recommend it. My pic below was from last December, where I got spray tanned. I got some great color from it...

Tanning is really bad for you.... Why dont you try neutrogena self tanner.. Ive used it alot and Im really pale.. It never gets that orange look! you shoudl give it a try..
