Girls Who Got Their Dresses Shipped Out of State to Avoid Tax-- help..

OK- so I was always planning on doing this- I mean, EVERYONE does this.. But I was looking over the shipping form that Kleinfeld gave me and I need to have it notarized- and since I do reside within NY State, that would be considered fraud.

How did you handle?

I have never heard of this. Would you save that much money? Having it notarized sounds so serious!

it was only a matter or 75 bucks tax for me so I just sucked it up..

Is it really a lot of money for you?

I will save like 400 bucks.. that's like the cost of veil, headpiece and then some!

FH shipped my e-ring to Jersey and that he did not having to have notarized! Anyway- just wanted to do some research-- it makes me nervous, but it is a lot of money to save.

You're right. That is a big deal. So, you have to find someone who will basically swear that you live in Jersey? Do you know anyone who will do that?

well- I JUST found out that all lawyers have notary stamps- and FFIL is a lawyer-- I have a place in Jersey to ship to-- and I can use my bro's address in Cali as my residence- so it is the same last name.. That's the thing- you can have a reside at address and a ship to address.. That may be the safest for me.

Ask FFIL if he has the stamp... FH just explained to me that all lawyers are exempt from the notary test... they just have to get the stamp. He may or may not have gotten it.

Someone probaly did that and never got the dress. It seems drastic to have a shipping document notarized?

It is true that all admitted NY lawyers are exempt from the notary test. However, a license is still needed - not just a stamp.

There is an on-line form to fill out. Then the stamp with the notary license no. on it and a seal can be ordered.

I have my stamp and seal.

Does it have to be you?

What if your brother in Jersey 'buys' the dress for you? Then it could get shipped to his address.

Or what if you're buying this dress for someone else (like your brother ;)), like a present. So then it makes sense to ship the present to the recipient's place.

This is really the stupidest thing of having you do that I've heard of! Unbelievably annoying!
