Girls who had their showers

Girls who had their showers

Did you have anyone miss your shower where it like REALLY shocked you? I had 2 really good friends miss my shower for one reason or another and it hurt my feelings. I know the world doesn't revolve around me, i just know how hard i would have tried to make sure I was there for them. One had some personal stuff going on and one had another party - both are involved in the wedding.

About 5 minutes into my shower I realized they weren't there and got really upset.

Did this happen to anyone else? I need to just get over it and let it go, but I got an email from one of the friends today and she didn't even mention it And she obviously got the invite because she rsvped 'no' to my sister. Like - I was atleast hoping for an 'hey, i had XYZ that day I couldn't get out of, I hope you had fun' or something - anything really.

Vent over

I know it's a tough thing to get over b/c to them it's not a big deal but to you it's very hurtful

I wasn't hurt but I was hurt for FH that his stepgrandmother and step aunt didn't come (his stepmother's sister and mother). He considers them his family but they consider him someone else's child and it's really painful to see others treat FH that way because he really is the nicest guy and he's always just trying to make others happy.

Yes, my college roommate missed mine... her was 3 weeks before mine and I drove almost 2 hours to go to hers, but she didn't show up to mine nor did she send a card or anything... I was very hurt!

It was kind of hurtful. I don't know what I expected, but I guess this is the same thing that is bound to happen with the wedding.

that is sad about FH - I would be hurt in that situation too. I guess I should just feel very lucky that most of my family and FHs family made it.

I had some sorority sisters that I swore would show not come....and they didn't even send me a card or a gift afterwards! I was pretty hurt by that...but i certainly didn't let that get me down too much! It's just one of those things you puti n the back of your mind and remember down the line...

Well - once we got into the party I let it go and had fun - I think it was that initial moment when I realized they didn't come that hurt a bit.

They didn't send anything either, but thats not even what bothers me - its like - they just didn't comment on it.

Ohs a well, whatever.

I guess I'm not the only one!!!

I haven't had my shower yet but it's not a surprise so I know that FH's sister isn't coming. I'm slightly disappointed. People who I thought would make a huge effort to come said 'ah, it's a long ride for a sunday - can't do it'

Oh and I have 1 Grandma left, no aunts or uncles, and she said the whole time in the past year she was coming and now she isn't comign to the shower or wedding.

In her defense she is 93 and lives in Boston but still

I'm sorry that they missed it

I do know how you feel- I had a couple people RSVP no for the wedding, no explanation, and I felt terrible because they were people that I would swear would be there

Yes. And that's all I'm saying b/c I already got really upset and don't want to rehash it as it was still a WONDERFUL day.

But, yes.

Yes, my grandma, but she had a really good excuse, she was taking into the hospital for emeregency surgery to get her golblatter to be taken out, the night b4 my shower. No one wanted to tell me bc they knew i had an idea about the shower and knew i would be upset if they told me b4 hand

Re: Girls who had their showers

well, last night my FMIL was talking about this woman that is coming to my shower (b/c she was saying how she rsvp'd and she thinks that she bought us a certain gift) - later on i asked FH who the woman was that his mom was talking about b/c i had no idea who she was and i never met her before - this woman is coming but i bet there will be family members and friends that i am close with and actually KNOW that wont show up - i think some people have the wrong priorities and it amazes me that people who dont know you show up and your 'friends' or 'family' have better things to do

Very true! I had a couple of 'friends' and family...just not respond at all. And, now the same for the wedding. It's really amazing! And yet, I have co-workers and friends who responded right away.
ETA: Oh, and I'm about 2 weeks past my response date...called a couple of these people and I still haven't gotten an answer. How's that?

Re: Girls who had their showers

A friend of mine that I used to work with and who is coming to my bachelorette party didn't even rsvp, and didn't show. I suppose it's possible she didn't get it, but it wasn't returned .... and I can't really say, hey, i was hoping to see you at my shower! she hasn't been on her myspace page since mid-july either so I am wondering if she is ok

I am not GREAT friends with her but she is a pretty good friend and I was a little shocked she didn't even call my mom.

Some of FH's family didn't call either. A lot of our family couldn't make it for one reason or another, which didn't really upset me very much - not that I didn't care, I just know it's summer and people have things happening - but it bothered my mom and sister a lot. I guess that they planned this big thing for me and then 25 people out of 65 didn't show up.

FH's aunt didn't come, she has a lot of pain with her back - she WAS coming but last minute backed out because she was in too much pain.

What I think is stranger is that people who are close family - 1st cousins, the aunt, etc - who didn't come didn't send a card or gift. There are a few things taken off the registry that I haven't received yet, however. Just to ignore something altogether I think is odd. I would never.

Re: Girls who had their showers

It sounds like you have every right to be upset at these people that didn't show.

If they had a valid excuse as to why they couldn't come, I'd say oh forgive them, don't let it get to you. But the fact that they haven't even bothered to mention it to you, makes it sound like it was nothing to them. Whenever I haven't been able to attend someone's shower, I always sent a gift and apologized for not being able to make it and explained why when I finally spoke to them after (I always waited until after the date cause I didn't want to ruin any surprises).

I'd probably ask them straight out - why didn't you come? I'd be so curious to hear their excuse.

Re: Girls who had their showers

I found out later.....2 people. One I am very close to (she was a reader at our ceremony) and the other is a mutual friend of DH & I, RSVPd yes and didn't show. The reader didn't come because of personal issues that I talked to her about. I still haven't found out why the other one didn't show......but it's has actually caused my sister and family for that matter a ton of grief and I will get to the bottom of it.

I had 3 or 4 co-workers never even respond. I guess 'NO' isn't part of their vocabulary. And since we're on the topic, I bet you mailing in an RSVP is out of the question also.

Re: Girls who had their showers

There were 5 people that bothered me that weren't there. My one friend was had to travel for work last minute so I know it's beyond her control, but it was upsetting she couldn't be there. The four others didn't even have the decency to say they weren't coming and had to be chased. I was more annoyed by that than anything especially since I had done so much (traveling to different states for some of them) for their showers/weddings. I understand that things can happen on the same date, but have the fuc*ing decency to call and say you can't come.
