Girls who have been to Key West

Girls who have been to Key West

We're getting really close to booking the mini-moon, wooot!

We are pretty much deciding between the Hyatt Key West Resort and Spa and the Ocean Key Resort and Spa. Both are pretty centrally located by the main drag. The Ocean Key is more expensive, but has nicer rooms and we can get a partial ocean view, has nicer bathrooms with a jet tub, but is a la carte with breakfast. The Hyatt's rooms are nice but a little more basic, does not have a view, does not have a tub at all in the bathroom, but offers a breakfast package add-on that still makes the total nut less expensive than the Ocean Key.

Has anyone been to either of these hotels and could recommend one over the other?

TIA!!!

Only been there for the day by means of the worst boat ride of my life (from Fort Myers) and flew back on a prop plane that evening (when my dad refused to get back on that boat)... so I am no help.

but I wanted to say... I am so happy things seem to be working out for you and your getting your mini-moon

That really would have been funny! But we're staying the week after the week after, probably 17-20. Only staying a little bit because Greece is going to be the major HM...I just hope it's worth it because really only 2 days to do things, Thursday by the time we land and drive there will be evening, and Sunday we need to get on the road back to Miami by like noon-12.30 latest. I fear it's going to be a LOT of money for not much time...but why not live a little?

I am going to Key West for my Honeymoon, we went last year and that is where FH proposed!!! I highly recommend Ocean Key Resort! That's where we are staying!! Also - eat at Michael's one night for dinner and Pepe's Cafe one morning for breakfast!!!!! If you want any others Key West tips just ask!!! I love it there and I am counting down the days until I am back there!!

Also .... ocean key is right by Duval which is SO convenient!! You can walk to EVERYTHING!! Where the Hyatt is not as close!

Both hotels are nice it really just depends on do you think you are going to stay in the room....

and my advice. do not get a car and use that money to fly directly into key west. I used to go to key west once a month and have done it both ways. Driving down is the worst. the extra $$ is worth the flight. If there happens to be an accident on Rt 1 (which there almost always is) a 3 hr trip can turn into 6 hrs. It is well worth the flight.

Personally... I never use the bath tub in hotels. I don't know if you do... so for me where this might sound as an added feature... it's a feature that I never even use.

Although I have never stayed at those specific hotels... I have been to the keys. And having been there... I just wanted to say that... if you are not stayin on Key West are you renting a car to travel to the other keys? I would recomend renting a car if you aren't staying on Key West. Also remember there is basically one bridge connecting all the keys so at times there can be traffic. However I think you might be fine with that considering the time of year you are going.

When I went we stayed on little pine key and had a car rental to travel to key west. You want to experience key west. It's an interesting and fun place and that's where a lot of the night life is.

ALSO - I know you like to save money... and this place might be a little pricey... BUT for an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING DINNER EXPERIENCE... i HIGHLY HIGHLY reccomend Little Palm Island. It's a restaurant on the beach. Book a reservation for sunset. Ask to sit outside... they have these planks of wood that they create a platform with and that's where your table and chairs are. It's insane!!! SOooo beautiful and truly romantic!!! You can probably look up the restaurant online. I went there once and NEVER forgot it. You drive to the key it's on and then they have a boat come and get you... because the restaurant is part of a resort that is on it's own private island. There are baby deer's all over too!! We were sitting there eating and one came right up to us!! I soooo want to go back to that place... it was by far the most beautiful dining experience ever!!! PERFECT for a HM!!!!!!!!! I sent my friends father there when he was visiting the keys... and he LOVED it!!!!

Do major airlines fly direct in to Key West? I was under the impression that it's a lot of connection flights and you have to take island hoppers to get there, and I'm DEFINITELY not comfortable on a small plane.

You can fly AA, USair and delta to key west. All have connections but most connect through Miami for Ft Myers. Delta used to have jet service from Atl but only during certain times of the year. It is a small plane from Miami and Ft Myers but its only like 30 mins. and way better than 4 hrs in a car. And if you are staying right on Duval (or near it) you will park the car and never drive it again until you leave. I did this with DH once and we both said what a waste of time and money. You will get so much more out of a short trip if you fly right in to Key West.

Re: Girls who have been to Key West

ive never stayed at either hotel... but ...i eat at the hyatt each time i go to KW because there's a beautiful view for sunset. both hotels are right off the main drag, far enough from it so its not too hectic- hyatt might be a little closer to duval but not too much of a difference. i think you'll be happy with either, they're both really nice.

dont know if that reaaly helped, but have a great trip!
