Can you give me some info on the occidental

like how is breakfast and lunch in an all inclusive, can you go to any of the restaurants any given night, which are the good restaurants, do they have drinks on the beach, etc.

and girls who went to aruba what restaurants would you recommend and what is the dress code

also if there are any activities we should do

thanks!!

Re: Girls who have been to the Occidental in Aruba and Aruba in general

i stayed at the Occidental summer of 07.

the breakfast/lunch is decent...its not fantastic but thats to be expected at an all inclusive.

there were 4 restuarants....an italian place, mexican, japanese/hibachi, and something else...i think caribbean. they were all pretty good....esp the hibachi place!

you are supposed to make reservations ahead of time. we did it the first night we were there for the rest of the week. however...one night we didnt have a reservation and we just showed up and slipped them some money and they sat us.

for all the restaurants fh wore slacks and a button down and i wore summer dresses or something...nice but not uber fancy.

there is also the casino that is open at night and is really fun. its not big but we would hang out there at night and they have black jack tables for low minimums so we could sit and play for a long time.

we loved the occidental! your gonna have a great time

edited to add: do ATV Mania....its awesome!!! its an excursion you can book through the hotel. you drive atvs like all over the island. fh wanted to do it so i caved. then we had the choice of each getting our own ATV or me riding on the back of his. i decided to get my own and im so glad i did...it was so much friggin fun!!!! and you end up going up this big mountain with these amazing views. that was an awesome day!!

you MUST do the kukukunooko bar hopping tour....its a bar hopping tour and u get a dinner and some free drinks, it was seriously the best time ever. book it in advance though because it books quickly

La Trattoria - El Faro Blanco was a really romantic italian restaurant on top of a mountain by the light house, the most amazing sunset and view EVER, you eat outside...it was amazing

i think its called flying fishbone, havent been there but wanted to...its on the water and literally your sitting on the beach as the water washes up on your feet.

I heard El Gaucho is great for steak.

Screaming Eagle is supposed to be awesome, has a miami like feel to it

I didn't stay at the Occidental. I can only recommend the Hyatt. It was amazing and has phenominal restaurants insude. Across the street thought, we went to a Brazilian Steakhouse. Semi-dressy. It was awesome.

We went jet skiing and we also went on the ku ku kanuko. You have to do it. It is a crazy drunken night, but it was so much fun!!!

We also did a full ATV off road and went to the Natural Bridge, the Natural pool and some other place. That was a big long for me, but we had a lot of fun. Make sure you were clothes you plan on throwing out afterwards.

There is a lot to do. Depending on what you want. But you have to go on the ku ku!!!

You HAVE to eat at the flying fish (i think thats what its called) ....the tables are on the beach in and some in the water...it was soooo romantic, fun and the food was really good

Re: Girls who have been to the Occidental in Aruba and Aruba in general

i think i booked the tour like the day i got there. i had a brochure for it and called immediately , lol. check out the website above, if not i'll find it for u.

we also went to Azul...its located at the Westin hotel....you eat at tables on the beach, very romantic but dinner ended up costing 200 and it was a set menu and we really didnt like it bc we dont eat seafood, but if u like seafood then it would be good

if you dont mind going to a chain restaurant they have a Tony Romas....really great ribs lol

Re: Girls who have been to the Occidental in Aruba and Aruba in general

I have restaurant suggestions!!! i will be eating at them for the next week too!!!! i go jsut about once a year!!!

Madame Jeanette's - ABSOLUTEL FAVORITE!!! a litte $$ but well worth it!!!

Gianni's - the ONLY ITALIAN restuarant worth going to in aruba. everything is imported and delish! prices are not too bad.

Chalet Suisse - my all time fav for surf and turf, best escargot ever... everything there is always consistently yummy.

Gasparito - local recipes and nicely priced. it is also an art gallery!

screaming eagle - actually never been, but we are trying it this week. great reviews, looks and sounds awesome. i can update you when i get back!

those are my favs!!!!

DEF kukukanuko (or however its spelled...) ... greatest drunk bus ever!! when it pulls up to your hotel, you might be thinking 'WTH did i get myself into??' but once you loosen up, its the best time!

el gaucho is AMAZINGGG... you will have never tasted steak like that in your life.... we wore khakis/skirt and nice shirts

flying fishbone... honestly, didnt have the greatest food IMO, but you're more or less paying for the view and ambiance...
