I'm happy with my weight and my body in general, but I have 7 weeks to the wedding and if I could do ANYTHING I'd like to get a bit more toned - especially in my arms and thighs, butt.
Suggestions? Do I have enough time to see any differences at all? What should I do?
Thank you

Re: Girls who strength train - help!
7 weeks is enough to show some hard work paid off. I would do at least 3 days of strength each week. Pushups and tricep exercises!!

It might pay to get a trainer for just one or two sessions, to help teach you some good execises. then you can do it on your own.

That might be a good idea. I've tried to follow routines in magazines before, but I don't really feel like they get results...

biceps curls palm up and thumb up tricep kick backs n dips pect flys pushups squats lunges step-ups
will lift n tighten well in 7 weeks at least 3x /wk a rest day in between to repair muscle
watch your form on lower body work, knee should always be behind your toes
happy training and good luck

Re: Girls who strength train - help!
bicep curls hammer curls tricep dips ( or with weight)
also look at some of the Firm or Buns of Steel series tapes. You have plenty of time. 3x a week...rest in between...you'll start seeing results in 3 to 4 weeks....

or, if you have time, take a cardio kickbox class. it tones everything in your body! if not, do general weight training but also don't neglect your diet. stay away from high sugary foods and carbs. eat more protein!

Re: Girls who strength train - help!
My body was the same, but i definitely could use some toning up! I started working out 4 weeks ago and i see a big difference! I've been working from home, so its been easy to work out. I do mostly leg work, a lot of squats and a leg routine from windsor pilates. I do arms every other time and abs and legs every time. I've been working out about 5 to 6 days a week. Its a lot but once i started its like i'm addicted and i love seeing the results!

Re: Girls who strength train - help!
Ok you definitely have time but really need to commit 5 days a week to working out!
I always work out but kicked into high gear in jan and really see a difference! My number 1 best friend = running.
This is my schedule for for a 5 day workout:
3 chest exercizes, 3 triceps
3 back, several legs
3 shoulder, 3 biceps
Body pump class that does a lot of everything! Or spin
And run 2-3 times a week

I do a lot of bicep and tricep curls with free weights! you see better results than the machines! and you can definately get pretty toned in 7 weeks! good luck!

Re: Girls who strength train - help!
what everyone said here is great advice. I would meet with a trainer and tell him what you want to accomplish, and then follow his advice. I just met with a trainer last week, starting his regimen today! Work all of your muscle groups - it will tone you everywhere because you really can't 'spot train' - and do 2-3 exercises for each muscle group (3 for legs, 2 for everything else is what my trainer told me). rest a day in between, do not do 2 days back to back. 3 days a week should do it, vary the exercises. lunges are great for legs! I did just one set last week with the trainer and my legs killed so you know it's working!

Re: Girls who strength train - help!
I definately recommend using free weights....but if you are a beginner at weightlifting it may be better to start on this machines till you get stron enough to be able to stablize the free weights correctly. Do you already go to a gym? Make sure you alternate days of doing weights (your body needs a full day of rest between sessions).....you can do lowers on the alternating days if you like.
I highly recommend starting a cardio routine as well, b/c even if your muscles are toned, you may not see them if you arent doing cardio as well. Even just walking on an incline will do. At least 45 minutes a day is what is recommended...even if you break it up into 3 15minutes sessions of walking or running a day. Don't worry, you definately have time to tone up in 7 weeks! try not to stress over it! Make sure you eat high protein and complex carbs only. If you really want definition you could start cutting carbs, but depending on when your fittings are/were you dont want to loose too much weight in the final weeks.

Re: Girls who strength train - help!
Thanks ladies! I do belong to a gym, and I do cardio regularly. I'm in good shape - just looking for some more definition...
I'm definitely going to do 5 days a week with some serious free weight lifting!
