Re: girls who took home their wedding cake top tier
I've been told by MANY it's horrible.
Our cake lady offered to send us a replica cake of the one from our wedding on our anniversary to eat, for free . i thought that was a really cute idea.

That might be a good idea. Or suggest to DH that he get you a small replica of your wedding cake on your anniversary. Bring out the puppy dog eyes, it always works

My sister and brother in law saved theirs and it tasted good! I was a little hesitant to eat year old cake. The RH wrapped it in a ton of plastic wrap. I think we will probably save ours.

we totally have it in the freezer in the box wrapped in saran wrap. the RH wrapped it for us. we plan to eat at least one bite (we are superstitious like that) and think it is good luck. we may also order a small replica from somewhere...as we moved to VA and our bakery is in NY...has anyone heard of cake love? they are near our new place...i wonder if they can do it?

oh do you know if tinfoil works? ours is in tinfoil right now. . my stepmother had wrapped it for us and though foil worked better but I had always heard saran wrap. .

You can just wrap the foil in saran wrap...It can't hurt.

If the cake is covered with fondant, it usually helps preserve the top layer of the cake. It think, it'll taste fine when you freeze it. Definitely let your baker know to have fondant over it if you are planning to preserve the top tier. Unfortunately, we were not able to do it for our wedding since our caterers actually had waitstaff that chucked it out after serving our guests. We end up ordering a replica of our top tier for our 1-yr. anniversary from the same baker that made our cake.

Our RH saved it for us, but we went straight to the hotel after the wedding and didn't have a fridge, so it sat out all night! So ours got tossed.

Ours sat in a hot car all night because we were staying at the East Wind and I guess we were so tired we didn't think about how stupid that way. It got so messed up and melted. haha - we ate it the next day anyway. So, nope, we won't be waiting for the 1 year anniversary.

We took ours home. We had a mini-cake cutting at my mom's house the next day during our day-after brunch/festivities. It was awesome! A lot of our OOT guests came as well as my bm's so it was really kind of special. Everyone LOVED the cake (red velvet with cream cheese icing and fondant) and devoured it! We will have a big red velvet cake made for our 1 year for sure!

Re: girls who took home their wedding cake top tier
We drove to our honeymoon and took it with us in a cooler and ate it that whole week! It was perfect! We're going to order a small 'replica' of it on our one year anniversary. i like cake best when it's really fresh and moist so we figured this was the best option for us. Plus our freezer is tiny and we didn't want it taking up that much room for that much time!

we're taking out top layer with us too. we're eating it on our 1st anniversay, not because its gonna taste good but just because of our anniversary.
