Girls who were already married before their wedding...

Did you have to go an get ANOTHER license to have the church marry you??? We were married by a judge 1st, and now we are having our wedding and ceremony in the church, do we need to get another license?

This is what our church is telling us... I didn't realize we needed to do this.

im curious about this too. i wanna get married by a judge first so i can use fh's insurance and get a couple of things taken care of before our wedding but im not sure if our church will marry us if we're 'previously married' even if its to the same person

X Finally X We are already married, and we are now getting married again in a church... I guess it just depends on your church.

We also needed to do it for insurance reason as I needed surgery and my plan didn't cover my dr.

So if you are up front and honest with your church then they will let you know.

Hi Renee!

If you are getting married in a Catholic Church, I believe it's paperwork through the Church that you have to get done. You will need what is called a convalidation... this is for couples that were previously married by a judge, justice of the peace, a non-catholic church, etc. that now want their marriage recognized by the Church. I would think that your priest would be able to tell you more about this.... you are already married, so I don't think that New York state can or will issue you another marriage license.
