i thought about this the other day, the regular garters definitely won't fit me.... ugh. do i really need one if i'm not doing the toss????

first, measure you leg exactly where you want your garter to sit.
then measure the elastic to one inch less than the measurment. 3/4 - 1 inch width works best
You will need a negligable amount of material, go to a fabric store and look in the remnant bin first. If you don't find something you like buy as little as possible, I believe it's a 1/4 of a yard.
when cutting fabric, besure to measure 2 1/2 times the width of the elastic and 1 inch longer than the length.
Fold the material so it's inside out and pin it together to form straight edges. If you are adding lace, be sure all of the lace is 'inside' the material so that when you pull it right side out the raw edges are inside the garter with the elastic.
Put the elastic up against the fold of the material to determine where to sew the fabric together. You should leave at least 1/8 in - 1/4 in take make it easier to pull elastic through the tube once it's right side out.
you should sew it together like this.....
this side represents the free/cut edge __l__l__l__l__l__l__l__l__l__ this side represents the side that has been folded
After you have sewn it together be sure to trim the material as close the sewn part as possible without cutting into your thread or where you have sewn. You can leave 1/8 of an inch and still have room to pull the elastic through.
Once you have sewn the edges, attach a safety pin to the elastic and pull it through the tube. Pull the elastic together to form a [1/2 ]inch and sew it together. First sew in an ( X) pattern, and then sew around the perimeter of the square you formed.
Then carefully fold under the raw edges on the end of the garter and use an iron on low heat with no steam to press a crease into the material. Using the same color thread as the material gently baste the garter together with small, short stitches all the way around.
voila, you got garter!

Some of those are VERY cute. I think I'm going to order. My body is SO disproportionate. I'm 2 sizes larger on the bottom! THANKS MOM FOR THESE NAPOLITANO HAMHOCKS.

I know what you mean!!! My chest and belly are getting smaller (according to FH yesterday), but my pants still fit the same!
