Girls with white gold Wedding or E-rings

Have any of you had your ring redipped or plated? I'm getting mine done on Friday since i am allergic to the nickel in the white gold and i keep breaking out in itchy rashes. My question is do you know if they take out the stones? or does the plating just not stick to stones?

they don't take out the stones it just adheres to the metal

Mine is platinum can you do this with platinum metal also??

The platinum scratches SO easily!

Yeah, my ring is white gold but the prongs and setting are platinum, and they dip the whole thing. They said doesn't hurt it.

I plan to get mine dipped- but Im not sure what they do about the stones. Im kinda nervous if they do take them out because I have so many little ones. Im just afraid they won't be put back as secure as they were in the first place. But that probably depends on the person doing it.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but after you get yours done can you let us know what happens and how it was and the cost etc?

Thanks!!!

I am interested in doing this also before the big day. Does anyone know approximately how much this costs?

not sure where you live but Gennero in Bellmore dips and polishes for $30! I had mine done last weekend and it looks like new

they do not take the stones out and it only takes 5 minutes PLUS you get to watch, kinda fun

I got both rings dipped two weeks before the wedding and they have turned yellow now (4 months) again. They just do the metal (do not take the stones out) but they inspect the stones/setting etc. We took out extra care service from Kay when we got the rings so everything is free.

I am just very unhappy over the fact it keeps turning yellow so I am going to go in next month get it redipped and talk about how to resolve this. I may have to change the setting to plat.

Where i get my ring cleaned they dip it for free. Wait they rodium plate it -- not sure if that is the same thing.

i have had the same issues with my ering from kay. we also had the extra insurance and care warranties BUT i hated the fact that you had to leave your ring there, they send it out to be dipped and it takes over a week i took my ring to a local jeweler this past weekend and they did it right in front of me. Id rather pay than be without it for 7-10 days. Also, I have to have mine dipped every 4-5 months and I spoke to them about it. It all has to do with the chemistry of your body - the acidity etc. GL!

My rings are white gold - I have not had them dipped but I know your ring is not actually dipped into gold - the stones are not removed - it is a form of electroplating.

Never knew about the nickel - I have a sterling silver tennis bracelette that makes me break out sometimes - I should have that dipped !!

Im not sure if silver can be dipped, but it wouldnt hurt to ask. I wonder if they mix nickel or other alloys into to silver to strengthen it like gold.

I am going to get mine dipped before the wedding, I never thought about that question though. I also had a reaction to the nickel and I read somewhere you could boil the ring...after much hesitation I tried it and it worked, haven't had a reaction since. I know it sounds crazy and scary I was very nervous but it didn't harm the ring and I did research on it as well.
