My MOH (FH's sister) has a six year old son...He was just diagnosed with Alopecia... I had no idea what it was until I looked it up on WEBMD.. It seems that occurs when the person is under a lot of stress. Patches of hair fall out and in some cases may never grow back!! I feel so bad for my MOH and her son...I was crying all night...He really doesn't know what is wrong with him, but my MOH is freaking out...They are seeing a specialist soon because the pediatrician could not help them answer any questions...Please pray for them...Thanks girls!!

Re: Girls...I am worried....
I have alopeica...I have had it for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, the docs gave me a cream to use so my hair would grow back. Now I get patches of bald spots and go see a dermatologist every four to six weeks and get corizon shots and my hair grow back. FM with if you have any questions!!! My suggestion is to may have them go see a dermatologist. Again let me know if you have ANY questions.I would be glad to help!!!!
I have alopecia also, I have had it since High School. My hair has grown back, I see a dermatologist for treatment. South Nassau Dermatology has 3 locations in Nassau and I highly recommend Dr. Leitcher.

I am sure this is alarming....but he is fine!
You saw Kris' email...this is a common ailment that people live with. Like having allergies or dry skin.

Re: Girls...I am worried....
I'm sure this is very scary for them. No mother ever wants to hear that ANYTHING is wrong with their child. But judging by some of the other girls' responses, there looks like some real hope. I hope he feels better!

Re: Girls...I am worried....
im sorry for crashing... but i too also had alopecia when i was a child. the dermatologist gave me cream and i had no problem growing my hair back. i know its really hard but im sure he will be just fine. but its good to be concerned!. and i always seem to look at the bright side but luckly hes a boy and its common for boys to shave their heads so he wont be an outcast. i hope that he has the kind that we all seem to have had and his hair will grow back!
good luck to them! hth a little

By reading what everyone is saying, it sounds very common and treatable. Lots of luck and well wishes for the lil guy.

My son, Michael, had alopecia when he was young and he also received the cortizone shots and his hair too grew back. Tell her not to dwell on it so that she doesn't stress him too much more and get a dermatologist who will give him the shots. Good luck

Re: Girls...I am worried....
I am so sorry to hear that! My little sister who is 12 now was diagonsed with Alopecia when she was aound 9 years old. She was losing her hair around her ears and a patch on top of her head by her forehead. They said is was stress related and gave her shots and now you can never tell that she ever had it. They said there is a chance it may happen again, but so far nothing. This is very common. I was shocked at how common it is. I hope he gets better soon.
