Give me Ceremony ideas PLEASE!!!

I really need everyone's help. My FH and i are different religions. From the beginning we said that we would have a non-denominational, non-religious wedding to accomodate both of us. It seemed like no big deal but day by day it's becoming more of a nightmare. After attending several weddings recently I realized that I REALLY would like some 'religious' touches. But(!!!) i know we can't. A couple of days ago i found out that we can't even have unity candles because his religion does not allow it. WTH??!! I never knew that lighting a candle had a religious symbolism to it. I thought the whole thing was that it unites 2 people! The ceremony is supposed to be the highlight of a wedding but i am really, really worried that ours will be super short (since it looks like we won't be doing anything) and not meaningful.
Can you give me some suggestions of things i can incorporate during the ceremony? Remember! No religious things allowed!
Sigh...any other brides have/had this issue??

You can do a sand ceremony instead of a unity candle? We did that and it came out really nice
