Re: Give me your best lasagne recipe!!

lol i just made lasagna tonight!

i dont really have an overly fancy recipe, i mainly follow the one on the box. i've tried the noodles you cook and the ones you dont have to and think the ones you cook taste better even though its more time consuming.

basically i get the water boiling for the noodles and preheat the oven to 375. then i start browning ~ 1 lb of chopmeat, then i drain it, and add some tomato sauce, spices, etc. you can also mix in some chopped sausage, mushrooms, ham, etc. then set aside.

then in a medium mixing bowl crack 2 eggs, add in 1 container of ricotta cheese and 1 package of shredded cheese (i use part skim mozz or italian blend, etc).

lay out a glass lasagna dish, cover bottom and sides with sauce, lay out 3 cooked noodles to cover the bottom. then add a light layer of sauce, then half of the meat mixture, then spoon out a little more than 1/3 of the cheese mixture. then layer 2 of noodles, the rest of the meat, more of the cheese. then layer 3 of noodles, a little bit of sauce, and then little dollops of the rest of the cheese. you can also sprinkle with shredded cheese. add some more spices.

then cover with foil, cook in oven for 30 min. after 30 min take off the foil, put back for 10-15 min and then enjoy!

ive played around with the recipe using different sauces, mixing in diff things and once i even tried to use a not-so-creamy vodka sauce for the sauce (although i used reg tomato for the meat layers) and it was relaly good but FH prefers it more traditional.

Honestly: get the Barilla no-cook lasagna noodles and follow that recipe. So easy and so good.

Re: Give me your best lasagne recipe!!

This is the one I usually make, it's more ingredients but very good

PREP TIME 30 Min
COOK TIME 2 Hrs 30 Min
READY IN 3 Hrs 15 Min

INGREDIENTS

* 1 pound sweet Italian sausage
* 3/4 pound lean ground beef
* 1/2 cup minced onion
* 2 cloves garlic, crushed
* 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
* 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
* 2 (6.5 ounce) cans canned tomato sauce
* 1/2 cup water
* 2 tablespoons white sugar
* 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
* 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
* 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
* 1 tablespoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
* 12 lasagna noodles
* 16 ounces ricotta cheese
* 1 egg
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 3/4 pound mozzarella cheese, sliced
* 3/4 cup grated Parmesan chee

DIRECTIONS

1. In a Dutch oven, cook sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until well browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons parsley. Simmer, covered, for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
2. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes. Drain noodles, and rinse with cold water. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
4. To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese slices. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce over mozzarella, and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil: to prevent sticking, either spray foil with cooking spray, or make sure the foil does not touch the cheese.
5. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil, and bake an additional 25 minutes. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.

I don't have the full recipe available right now, but one of the secrets to a great lasagne that I've picked up over the years is to use tomato soup instead of tomato sauce...try it, it's an entirely different flavor yet curiously comforting and YUMMY!!!

Instead of browning chop meat, I make little about 1/4 inch meatballs and spread them inbetween the layers.
