.. did anyone do/or planing on doing anything creative with your guests to give away the table centerpieces??
I'm planning on putting a gold star under 1 plate at each table and at the begining of the night before dinner is served, having each guest look under their plate, and who ever has the gold star takes home the centerpiece... .. I figured this would avoid any conflicts if more than 1 person at the table wants them.
What were your thoughts about giving away centerpieces?

Re: Giving away Centerpieces
I expect people to take them. If you want one saved for your house, you should get an extra one. I'm not sure people fight for them any more. My sister had a bunch left over from her wedding. At my friends wedding the DJ wasted like 20 mins of dance time going around to every table and played a game- name that tv show song. It was very annoying and a big waste of time IMO.

a lot of people have the DJ announce that the person with the closest birthday gets it

My friend did something that I thought was cute. She had the oldest person and the youngest person at the table stand up. The youngest person then gave the oldest person the centerpiece. I thought it was very cute.

I have seen the oldest, youngest, closest birthday, sticker or ribbon on chair/plate. The worst thing I participated in was a hot potato. That was really annoying. At the last wedding I went to, they had someone take a dollar out of their pocket and played hot potato with that. Whoever had the dollar at the end of the game kept the dollar and the person who took it out got the centerpiece. I think I am going to stick to a ribbon or something on the chair....

I think I am doing the sticker under the plate... and have them put the sticker on the person who has the worst seat (i.e. sits with back to the couple or dancefloor)... that way even though they did not have the best view, they go home with something extra.

FH and I went to a wedding last week where they did the dollar pass. Since we had been to another wedding where they did that, FH remembered that if he put in the dollar, he would get it. He actually won his dollar too.

The ABSOLUTE worst thing I ever had to do at the wedding was play hot potato with a cloth napkin AFTER dinner. who wants to touch someone else's dirty napkin. Go for the sticker you could also place the sticker under the favor if you are placing the favors on the table

Friends of ours put a scratch off under a plate and I can't remember if it was ther person witht the scratch off or the person to the left or the right. we may do that. Not sure yet.

Kathy2176, the last wedding I was at did the same thing! Maybe we were at the same wedding.
I'd like to something low key that doesn't eat up alot of time too. I like the oldest/youngest idea.
ETS: Dolphin, at my MOH's wedding, the DJ had people do that with the napkin and then had people toss it across the table. Not the brightest idea when there were raised candles in the center of the table!

Re: Giving away Centerpieces
I was at a wedding a few month ago that did the dollar thing. I think I might do something I saw at an anniversary party where you put pieces of paper in a little box on the table and pass the box around so everyone take a piece and whoever gets the piece that says centerpiece gets to take it home. This way its fair and every table does it at once.

we haven't really talked about that yet, but I like the idea of putting something under the plate.
