Glamour Article on TTC

Glamour Article on TTC

I just read the March Glamour (little behind in my house) and their is a great article on what to do if you are TTC.

I found interesting the numbers they had. Its a really low percentage of getting preggo the first month of trying.

They also had a chart that showed the best days to TTC and that you should not BD with husband every day during those days but every other day because the man need to regroup his sperm and if you do it every day there is less sperm to go into you.

Also, the keeping your legs up in the air after sex (or laying down) is a myth because sperm actually are shot out towards the cervix and that is not needed.

I can get the numbers tonight if anyone is intersted. I think they stated that 85% of the people TTC get preggo within the year.

Hope this info helps you girls.

yes my Dr said this as well...She said most men do not need to wait at all.

I read the article, It kinds depressed me..I may be off with my numbers but it said most 25 or 28-30 yr olds take about 6 months. Thats a long time! And then it goes UP after that...seems off to me..at least I hope!

Re: Glamour Article on TTC

Okay here is what the article says...

1. When to have sex...

Every day?? Men need between 36 to 48 hours to restock a sufficent number of sperm, so daily sex can mean your DH does not have enough time during that small window of time around ovulation.

2. How long can it take.....

In any given month the chances of getting preggo are 10-15% for a man and woman under 35 and healthy. After a year of trying, 88% of such couples will be preggo....after two years it is 95%. On average, a couple of 30 year olds will take six months to conceive, and a couple in which both are 35 it will take nine months.

3. The importance of being healthy...

Cutting down on alcohol and cigarettes can help you conceive....smokers have a 50% more likely chance then non smokers to miscarry once they do get preggo.

WHen it comes to weight..you don't want to be too thin or very overweight...both conditions can affect your hormone levels and cycle.

4. You Age...

Here are the stats...despite the news stories of babies born to woman over 50...fertility rates start to slide around age 35. But if you want to get preggo you should aim between the ages of 35-39. By 40, the quality of your eggs is 50% of what they were at 31.

5. Position....

There is no magic position....If you heard that it is helpful to lie back on a pillow with your legs up in the air for 20 minutes after sex to help sperm reach their target.....FORGET IT. 'Once sperm are realeased, they rush for the cervix immediately and they can find their way whether you're sitting, standing or dangling upside down from bed.'

And finally....the article says you are your most fertile the day you ovulate your egg. However due to the fact that most womans cycle can vary month to month, you should consider the day you think you ovulate plus two days before and after is the best time.

Generally you ovulate 14 days before your period arrives. To approximate the day you ovulate, figure out the average length of your cycle (say 32 days) the subtract 14 days to get the day......

You are not only fertile the 5 days around ovulation.....you are also fertile the three days before the 'window of ovulation'.

You are least fertile the 10 days before your period and the week your period would/does last.

And MOST IMPORTANTLY....don't think too much about hese things....that is when things can really reek havoc on your body. Just 'go with the flow' and things will happen the way they are suppose to happen.......

I have seen so many woman think so much about getting pregnant that i am convinced that if you think too much about it.....it really becomes an issue...ENJOY the babymaking...and what comes.....comes...if not there are a TON of options out there for the both of you......GOOD LUNCK...

I hope to join you shortly.

Is this part of the article or was this the part you added?
Regardless, this is the most insensative statement ever!! Besides the fact that it is a non-educated statement and last but not least a bunch of BULLSHIAT!

and the counting back 14 day thing is a fallacy. My lp was 9 days, then last cycle was 12.

The every other day thing only holds true of you get a SA and are dealing with MFI (male factor infertility) due to low sperm counts
