Glavine in traffic accident

NEW YORK -- New York Mets starting pitcher Tom Glavine was injured in a traffic accident Tuesday afternoon and will miss his scheduled start Wednesday against the Houston Astros.
Glavine called the Mets about 2:15 p.m. ET to say that he'd sustained injuries to his face and mouth when the taxi he was in was involved in an accident on the Grand Central Parkway in Queens. Glavine, who spent the Monday offday at his Atlanta-area home, had flown into LaGuardia Airport and was en route from the airport to Shea Stadium when the mishap occurred.

Glavine was taken to New York University Hospital, where he was being examined by Mets team physicians. Mets manager Art Howe indicated that Glavine's spot in the rotation would be made by somebody on the roster and the team currenly has no plans to make a roster move.

'I just hope he's OK. That's the most important thing, that he's healthy,' Howe said.

Glavine is 8-10 this season with a 2.92 ERA.
