Happy Holidays all!! I've gotten lots of help and ideas from LIW so I hope you guys can help now. I'm leaning towards a reception at The Glen Cove Mansion. I've not made an appointment to see it yet. I want to gather as much info as possible beforehand. I've gotten some info via FM's and in past threads. I've seen a couple of things that give me pause. Help if you can:
a) Much has been made about the odd shape of the ballroom. What shape is it? Is it really that bad?
b) Can there be a minimum of 100 people? I can't get an answer to this to save my life. I've asked two people at GCM this and they send me info on everything except that.
c) What sold me on the place is the grounds. It looks beautiful there. I'm afraid that if I have a late fall or winter wedding that I may lose out on that aspect. Is the inside lovely enough to book anyway?
d) How annoying are the visitors staying at the hotel? I read in one thread that they might well have a glass of champagne if they wanted. How can this be? I thought champagne would be served during the cocktail hour and during dinner? Wouldn't the reception activities be seperate from the general lodging area?
Please share your tales. Any info you guys can provide will be great.

Re: Glen Cove Mansion
I've never been there for a wedding but have been several times for corporate retreats.
The guests rooms are quite a ways away from the dining areas and the front of the mansion.
The building itself is gorgeous. The staircases in the main hall would make for fantastic pictures, and the grounds would be beautiful even if it's winter. Also the pub upstairs in the attic area (and the bowling alley) would make for more great pictures.
You'll have to make a decision when you see it as to whether it fits what you would want, but I think it's a great place to check out regardless.
GL!

Thanks Cpt2007!! I was starting to think that the bowling alley was a figment of my imagination because I didn't remember seeing it on the list of recreational activities on their website. I actually emailed again to ask about the minimum number of guests. The answer $25,000. I'm starting to feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. I'm just going to make an appointment. Maybe they don't get into specific breakdowns unless you come in. LOL.

The odd shaped ball room is no big deal. Believe me! we had the dj in the middle by the windows and we were right across by the french doors - with the dance floor in between. It broke up the room nicely.
We did a Friday night wedding and had a minimum of 125 - but that was only seven months before the wedding - so they probably just wanted to book the place.
We go married on 10/27/07 and it was the perfect late fall day. The inside of the mansion is lovely as well - do not worry about pictures!
As for other guests - quite honestly, I never saw another guest!
If anyone has any questions about Glen Cove Mansion - please feel free to fm me...
