Glen Island Harbour Club, Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club or Tappan Hill

We are looking to find a sophisticated place with separate areas for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception for a Saturday night June 2009 wedding for 125 people. I have looked at Tappan Hill, Tarrytown House, Round Hill, Le Chateau and Whitby Castle. Tappan Hill and Whitby Castle are still possibilities (although after reading through posts here I may take Whitby out of the running) and I have appointments at Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club and Glen Island Harbour Club this weekend. I was hoping to get some honest opinions from brides and wedding goers who have been to Glen Island and Mamaroneck, especially in comparison to Tappan Hill. Which venue has the best pictures? What about service and decor? Food? What are thoughts on having two weddings going on at the same time? Any little detail is really appreciated! Thanks for your help!

Have you been there for a wedding? Where were the pictures taken, the only ones I have really seen are with green grass backgrounds. Does it have a 'wedding factory' feel at all? We initially wanted a unique place, I was searching mainly for castles and mansions. My boy doesn't want it to be boring or 'cliche.' What do you think?

My sister got married at Glen Island and she loved it. The service and food were great. Everyone raved about the location. If you are having your reception in the larger ballroom, your guests can go out by the water and take pics...thats what alot of her guests did. The rooms are nicely decorated and well kept. Her bridal attendant went above and beyond for her.

She said if she had to do it all over again, she would choose Glen Island to get married hands down..

My cousin got married at Tappan Hill and that was also a really amazing wedding. Abigail Kirsch is the caterer there and she has a great reputation. The service and food at Tappan Hill was exceptional and the grounds are beautiful as well. What I remember most about Tappan Hill was the food.

I am partial to Tappan Hill because I prefer outdoor ceremonies and you can get married out doors there and its beautiful. At Glen Island the ceremony room is indoor but its all glass as is the ballroom so that would be your preference if you want outdoor or indoor ceremony.

Alot of guests that attended both weddings liked Glen Island more than Tappan Hill because it was surrounded by water and alot of people enjoy that setting.

They both had about 125 guests as well. My sister got the larger ballroom even though she had only 125 guests and that was good because it didn't feel congested. The ballroom my cousin had at Tappan Hill was smaller so the tables were closer together.

If you choose either of those locations I am sure you will be happy. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any more questions.

i am getting married at fountainhead, owned by the same family as glen island. neither of them are going to be like wedding factories but can hold 2 weddings at a time (very separated in my opinion). my friend is getting married at glen island a month before me and its beautiful there. her pictures will be taken on site by the water and grassy areas. ive seen pics of tappan hill which look really beautiful too. good luck.

The cocktail area at Tappan Hill looks small (I am using the smaller reception area), did it feel crammed at all? I didn't like the stairs down to the ceremony site, but I was there on a rainy day. What were your impressions of the bridal party as they came down the stairs and aisle?

Well compared to Glen Island the room at Tappan Hill did feel congested. Glen Island is more roomy so the tables were spaced out nicely. and at Tappan Hill the tables did seem a bit too close.

The cocktail area was not bad because your guests can also use the outdoor area if it's not raining. thats what we did. We took tons of pics outside during cocktail hour. The cocktail area at Glenn Island you also have access to an outdoor balcony which is nice.

Have you visited both locations yet or just Tappan Hill?

The walk down the aisle seemed long because you have to walk down the stairs and everyone can see you from that distance.

You might also want to look at The Surf Club (it's about 5 min from Glen Island). We looked there and I liked it (it was our second choice) but decided on something actually on LI.

I have only visited Tappan Hill, I am seeing Mamaroneck and Glen Island this weekend. I'll be using the smaller area at Tappan Hill with the upstairs cocktail area, I didn't realize there is access to outside? Perhaps you were in the part of the mansion used for larger parties? Same with Glen Island, I will be using the Terrace Room with the windows for the reception and the smaller cocktail area which doesn't have windows (according to my friend who visited).

Is the walk down the stairs at Tappan Hill awkward? It's not as pretty as I was hoping, but could that have been due to the rain?

Glen Island was my second choice... the place is beautiful and their ceremony room is BEAUTIFUL!!!

My friend recently went to a wedding at Tappan Hill and said it was way overpriced and the food was just ok. She got married at Glen Harbor and I went to her wedding- it was beautiful- right on the water and all, but it does have a 'catering hall feel' - the service was great, food was ok, the decor was very pretty (She got married around Christmas and it was decorated very nicely)

Ok i just posted this on the 08 boards bc a lot of brides have been asking about Glen Island. My sister got married there and her wedding was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

check out her review 7706bride!!!! SHe has some great pics and the room, food and service were all beyond great!!!!!

I went to a function at the Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club a couple of years ago. It is very pretty and you will be able to take some really pretty pictures. The food was good and so was the service.
