What kind of Glider is everyone getting? I've seen so many, and they are all mostly comfortable. It's hard to decide. I like the reclining one's, but they're too expensive. My mom is purchasing this for us, but I know she can't afford that much. Do you have to get a reclining one? Do you really need one? Thanks! Can anyone recommend a store that has nice one's at a reasonable price?

Re: Glider question...
my mom is ANTI-GLIDER. she insists I didnt' need one. I got like an upholstered chair glider - I'll post a picture when I get it.
She was telling me I could use a nice old rocker just as easily or really any chair at all. She said I might end up finding that I like to BF in bed, or on the couch, etc.....I like the idea of a glider just to sit on and hang out though. It's really just a personal decision - I dont' think you 'need' one though.

Re: Glider question...
I didn't want one until I sat in them at BRU. They are soooo comfortable. Definitely more comforatble than a regular rocking chair. My family always had a rocking chair, so sitting in this was nice. Rocking chairs make me dizzy/nauseous, and the gliders don't.

Re: Glider question...
Do a search on line - you can get them cheaper with free shipping (there are quite a few sites, I cant recall the URL addys right now but if you do a Yahoo search on gliders you will find them). But before you do that, go to BRU or another store and try them and write down the exact styles of the ones you like best. Also do that with the cushions because some cushions are more comfy than others. If you decide to go with something on line, you will know what it will be like when you get it. If you are trying to save money, I would forego the ottoman. I have hardly used mine and if you plan on BF the baby in the glider, the ottoman isnt the ideal position for your legs - you really should use a nursing stool and can get one for $20 (or less). Lastly, if you are going to be enjoying the glider while you are preggo and then sitting in it with your little one, go with the one you find most comfy, it is worth it!

ETA: You absolutely DO NOT NEED one. If you need other things, you may be better served to put your Mom's gift money towards other stuff. Your baby will be very happy just being in your arms. It's more of a luxury item.

Melissa-
Did you try Walmart? They have one by me for about 80-90 dollars with the ottoman.
Also, I found one at KMart for about 100 dollars and it goes side to side and back to front. It is pretty neat...it also comes with the ottoman.

Re: Glider question...
I LOVE MY GLIDER.....I don't know what I would do without it. It wasn't too expensive either, I got it on the Target website...chair and ottoman $355 total with everything and it's made by shermag and the quality is great. They delivered it to the house. I believe you can only get this deal online.

I wasn't going to get one but now I'm glad I did -- I love it! It's great for the long hours spent there - more comfortable than my rocking chair. I got it at BRU for a pretty good sale price. It's a Dutalier (not sure that's spelled right). But you certainly don't need one.

Is there a better brand than another? Does anyone know what brands are better? Thanks!

I hate to say this...but I don't *love* mine and it was $500. I preferred BFing on the couch...much more comfortable!

Re: Glider question...
I am very happy with my new glider. I got it at BRU and it is a Dutlainer. It reclines and I got the ottoman as well. It is super comfty and I cannot wait to hold the baby in it.
I orginally wanted a Pottery Barn one, but when I sat in it, it was too hard for me to get in and out of. And Scott was not super comfty in it either. I wanted us both to really love it.
Yes, it was not cheap but it was important to me to get one that I really loved. And I got it for storytime, not just bfing time so I guess it depends on what you want to use it for.
IMO- an old time rocker is not the same as a glider.
You need to actually sit in them before picking one though.

Re: Glider question...
Definetely go sit in some. My DH and I found that alot of them are short- like you can't rest your head back against the chair because the back is too low. The upholstered chairs are all really short. Some of the Dutalier rockers have higher backs than others and let you really lean back and get comfy. They have the Dutalier rockers in the JC Penney catalog for cheaper than BRU or Buy Buy Baby. I also skipped the ottoman and am getting a nursing stool instead. The ottoman was too high for me.

Re: Glider question...
We bought ours strictly because it matched our furniture. I have no idea if I'll actually use it, but it'll look great in the baby's room.
