Can anyone recommend a good brand and also places where I can get one for not $$$$ I've been looking online and the cheapest one I saw (with ottoman) was about $600.
I'm not sure if that's the norm, so I wanted to get some input from those of you who put them in your nurseries.
Thanks!

Re: Gliders
I have a Shermag glider (which was bought at BRU), but mine was not that cheap! I think we paid about $450 for it, but I am very happy w/it.

Re: Gliders
I found a GREAT one. It is soooo comfortable. It was about $220, and I got it at Babies R' Us. My DH is 6' 5' and he's really comfortable in it. The baby isn't here yet, and I still go sit in it because it's so comfortable. I don't see the point in spending sooo much money after finding this one. It's by Jardine Enterprises.
They have a few different models at BRU. I haven't bought one yet, but I tried out the $200 one and it was pretty good.

Re: Gliders
My glider is a Dutailner (sp?) from BRU and was about $700 w/ottomon. It took 12 weeks to come in sincee I ordered a special pattern. Sue I would also try it in a store before purchasing one online. Each glider is a bit different and the one I orginally wanted (from PB) was just not comfortable for me once I sat in it. When you go make sure that Jens also tries it out. One that I liked was not comfortable for Scott.

The Dutailner is the one I've been looking at. Jens hasn't a clue as what's 'average' for the price of these things, so he's sort of assuming that 'around $600' is the going rate. I want one that I can get in a customized fabric to go with the nursery, but I don't want to have to pay more than I have to just so I can get a glider in blue denim.
Thanks for all your input ladies. I'll definately take hubby to go and try them out with me. Though I'm sure all he'll do is look at the price sticker as the basis for which one he finds most comfortable

Re: Gliders
Sounds like good prices you're getting. I ended up going to Bellini's, and, with the ottoman (which you MUST have), it ended up costing about $800. But, it will last a lifetime!!

Re: Gliders
I have a Dutailier glider and ottoman. Do a search on yahoo - I dont remember the websites but they will come up if you search. You can get the same stuff they sell in the stores for less and with free shipping. But try them out in the store first so you know exactly what you are purchasing. Try different shape cushions and fabrics too - they can make the difference in the comfort as much as the shape of the glider. I personally could have done without the ottoman. I never use it and if you are breastfeeding, the optimal position is not with your feet on the ottoman but instead on a small nursing stool.
My opinion is, get the most comfortable one you can afford. You will be sitting in it alot and you might as well be very comfy. Also. some are special order so you need to allow more time, sometimes 12 weeks so if you want it while you are still preggo, keep that in mind. I loved sitting in it when I was 9 months pergnant, it was the most comfy place in the house.

Re: Gliders
susan do you want the large overstuffed one? that is one I orginally wanted but it was not very comfortable for me once I sat in it. It is rather low to the ground. but that is just me. Make sure you try it out first. I paid only like $8.00 more for the fabric, which is a BRU special order charge. It just takes a long time to come in.

I agree Michele. I sat in one to try it out when I was about 7.5 months along, and I had a hard time getting up!

My ottoman actually has an integrated nursing stool/stationery foot rest to solve just that problem!

Re: Gliders
The best online prices I found for the Dutailier series is starting at $330 for the 117 model The of course there are the ones with locking systems, multi-positions...so many choices!!
The ottomans are about $140. $180 for a nursing one like Claud posted, which I'll probably get since I plan on BFing.

Re: Gliders
I forgot all about the ottomans with the nursing stool. Since you are looking at Dutailier - have you seen their ottoman with the stool? Maybe they have change them but when I bought mine (Aug 02), the stool that came out from the ottoman was an ugly black metal. The ottoman itself was wood but not the stool. I did see that the Shermag ott/stool were nicer like the one Claud posted but the glider I loved was Dutailier so I went with that one. That was the reason I didnt get the one with that feature.

Re: Gliders
Susan- definetely go to BRU or BBB to sit in the chairs and try them. My DH and I found a few things from testing them: - many have very low backs (especially the overstuffed chair like ones) so it is impossible to rest your head back against them, which seems like something you would want to do during those late night feedings - the ottoman is very high and I found it uncomfortable and actually a strain on my back to have my legs up that high. I skipped the ottoman and got a plain nursing stool instead - Dutalier is expensive, but has many different finishes so you can get one that matches your furniture and many different fabric choices - Don't know about the whole locking mechanism thing - I don't think ours has one but can't imagine really missing that

Re: Gliders
The one we got you can rest your head on. I also don't think the ottoman is comfortable. I got a nursing stool also. Much more comfortable.

Re: Gliders
The only reason why you WOULD want the locking mechanism is if you plan to keep the chair in the child's room when the child is a little older (like to sit in to read to him/her), then if it does not lock, the child can get his/her hands caught in the chair's moving parts. This is a very important thing to remember, as children love to play with things that move.
